My wife is in hospital and she is feeling much better, I asked her if a hospital date night was OK, she consented immediately and joyously. We ordered wor won ton, chicken karrage, and roti canai. We also had two amazing black iced teas perfectly sweetened and creamed without asking i may add. The chicken was ever so crunchy yet juicy and the dip was to live for. The roti canal as always crispy and doughy and the dip a adventure into east Asian flavor! The wonton was at war with my soul, and won The engagement before it even started. The sung tsu art of war could take notes on the ability for this soup to control the battlefield. We had an outdoor area at Royal Columbian hospital to enjoy a much needed respite from The hum drum existence of hospital life. Please enjoy the photos i took of the ever so dedicated owner of this scrumptious Asian restaurant. The other photos are of the outside of the restaurant which makes finding it much easier and the rest is the space we enjoyed in an outside garden at the hospital. Please take our words, this beautiful lady and her food are both any distance for traveling! Old post. New one above, i couldnt add a new one so i edited my old. CLICK ME, CLICK ME. . . Where to start, ive been going here with my wife since the beginning. This newly opened gem, soft opened with ramen only. and quickly, but not to quickly added the fusion to their name. Since then my family hasnt been able to get enough of this gem, in the rough of surrey, nay most of British Columbia. Starting the menu on skip the dishes is the "salt and pepper squid" they know the secret of getting deep fried food fresh and crispy to the door. Not to mention what's not in the name, which is key to its perfection - is the asian medley of, onions, garlic, green onion and green bell pepper, diced and caramelized to angelic value. It says the "roti canai" is a must have, I beg to differ. This creative carbohydrate dream is equal to slipping closed eyes into a south asian influenced hot spring in the middle of winter buck naked. Next is the wonton soup a slow creeping magician explosion of flavor, starting with the perfectly seasoned creamy broth and skillfulled wrapped pork morsels, still springy from the magical moment of conseption, I would strongly agree you add bamboo shoots and broccoli to this dish. Finally the seafood tumyum ramen finisher smashes you way past the finish line with perfectly executed basa white fish, prawn and mussels. If needing more direction on this choice, I strongly agree to add a seasoned and soft boiled egg that will not disappoint paired with the vermicelli noodles which is the fifth option of noodle. Both flour and gluten free rice noodles options available. This entire meal feed us to almost happiness incarnation with a...
Read moreThis place does not deserve to be called a ramen restaurant. You know something's up when both the menu and decor have an identity crisis. I'm not saying that restaurants can't be proficient at different ethnic cuisines, I'm just saying this ain't it. If they did in fact have a Japanese ramen chef, they must have left ages ago. If not, please tell them about this review and that they've got some serious issues to work out.
Let's start with the chicken karaage, which they should just rename to popcorn chicken, except even KFC seasons their popcorn chicken better. This is a recurring trend in this review, as you'll soon see. Did I mention it was served with regular mayo? Would it kill them to walk fifteen minutes to T&T to pick up a few bottles of Kewpie? The other reviewer who made a positive note of their sweet should be ashamed.
All the salt in this review wouldn't be able to adequately season the two bowls of ramen we tried (truffle and tonkotsu). The noodles tasted like instant ramen -- ironic that it took quite so long for it to be served, even more so when the ajitama arrived bland and overcooked. I live for the runny, delightfully flavorful stuff and in my great wisdom ordered extra, which I soon discovered was a waste of money -- as was the extra chashu, but I was hungry and willing to give them a fair shot. I'm really trying to find a good pun for roasting and chashu but I'm coming up dry, well there's the pun. Dry(???), grainy, and again, lacking in flavour, and I am not joking when I say that I have never looked for a salt shaker in a ramen restaurant until that fateful (not tasteful) day.
Based on the many positive reviews I read on here, and the 3.5* rating at the time of writing, I was willing to give this place a shot. But I have no idea what the previous positive reviewers were eating. Bland to the point of offensive. Poor execution on all aspects of the food served, besides presentation (the bowls looked pretty, at least). Service was good, but what good is service when the food itself isn't?
Do yourself a favor, and make the trip out to Richmond, Burnaby, or Vancouver for some decent ramen. Or just go to Pho Tam/New...
Read moreI came on opening day around dinner time and the restraunt was filled with people with a few dinner tables still available. It took the server 5-10 minutes to even acknowledge the fact that I was waiting at the door.
Once I was seated, I was given a menu. I wasn't informed of the specials that was going on or the dishes that they didnt have as it was a soft opening.
I ended up ordering the truffle ramen which came out after 45 minutes later. It was decent, there was a generous amount of Chasu pork. The price wasn't complainable.
Came back with my friends a day or two later, my best friend ended up ordering the Shio miso ramen black or something like that with a side of gyoza and I ordered the spicy tonkatsu ramen with the chicken karage. It came out in about 20 minutes or so. When I tried my bestfriend miso black ramen it tasted the same as my ramen with the broth. So there was nothing special that made it a "black" ramen dish. When i got my order, they forgot to add the spicy sauce to my ramen dish so I told the server and the server came out with Chinese hot oil for me to add into my dish. It didnt really change the flavor or the dish. Also, for both ramen bowls we were served chicken instead of pork chasu and nobody had told us. The gyoza and the chicken karage were very good.
My guy friend isn't fond of ramen so he wanted to get something with protein. Half of what he wanted to order wasn't ready. As he wanted to order a pork and chicken skewer but they were in short supply of pork. He ended up just nibbling off of my chicken karate dish and we resulted in going to top king since they didnt have anything on the menu that he wanted.
When we went to pay, we brought up how we were served chicken instead of chasu as it was stated in our menu we would be. The manager kinda gave a a smile but did not apologize for not telling that it was chicken that was added to our dish.
I see potential in this ramen place but theres alot if improvement that the...
