Edit for July2024. I wish I could say better for this place. I haven’t gone back because I know 100% they didnt serve salsa to me that day. It was bruschetta. I want to clarify, I gave the server every opportunity to rectify. But she insisted that was what it was. Even noticing the oregano in it and says that’s how they make it. I resigned to the fact that that’s what everyone likes. But it still boggles my mind why the high ratings? First review: Went there for some flavourful Mexican food. I was sadly disappointed. The chips and salsa was our appetizer and my biggest complaint about that, is the salsa. That should have been the star. The opportunity is there to have great flavour. I don’t think this salsa verde is homemade. I’ve have Heredez salsa in a jar and it’s better than what they make. Or it’s exactly what they use, but watered down. There is no flavour to the verde. For the main dish I had the chimichanga. This time I wanted to try the mild salsa after mentioning the lack of flavour in the verde to our waitress. That came as a surprise. I was surprised that they actually make a pretty good bruschetta. But to try to pass off a bruschetta, as a salsa is just wrong. There was way too much oregano in the mild salsa. You say what? Yes,oregano in their salsa. The photo, for reference shows the oil base floating on top of the “salsa”. If I had to guess, this is Costco’s bruschetta. Now, I did let our waitress know that the green salsa was watery, and there was heavy amounts of oregano in the mild salsa along with the oil vinegar base. Probably fell on deaf ears. The chimichanga was bland also. I needed to ask for salt as everything tasted under seasoned. I won’t go back unless they consider revamping their idea of Mexican. Because what we ate could’ve been cheaper at Taco Bell with much...
Read moreI find myself compelled to write this review and It is not the review I thought I would make after my first impression of El Patron but please read to the end to fully understand. I will give you the whole truth. I walked in a little hangry I admit so I was a little put off by my first impressions of the prices for shall we say, such a simply presented restaurant. There is not much table space and is for the most part, a take-out restaurant but again, I was so hungry and in the mood for a taco! I chose the birria tacos as I had never tried them before and I wanted something authentic. I got the meal which included 3 tacos with the dipping sauce (consume) and 2 sides (rice and beans) of course they offer taco sauce (hot, mild and green and maybe more, I couldn't hear them over my growling stomach!).... The meal cost $20 which again, my first impression was that it was a little much...but wait.. hear me out please. After about a 10 minute wait, I left with my meal and drove back to my office, opened the still hot and steaming package and was greeted by a wonderful, enticing aroma and if the smell wasn't enough, the taste...oh the taste! These are the tacos of the Gods.. If God eats tacos, I promise these are the ones God would choose. They were packed with tender shredded beef and gooey cheese onions and cilantro and then grilled on the flat top to give them a nice crisp on the outside. The dipping sauce added another level of flavour and let me tell you, when your are done with your tacos, you WILL drink the rest of your dipping sauce. When I finished, I was full! In the end, it was worth every penny. There was love in this meal, I could feel it. Well done, El Patron, I will be back...
Read moreHaving visited El-Patron many times, I felt the need to offer a review on my many experiences here:
Firstly, the décor at the restaurant is super fun and inviting - brightly painted walls with traditional art create a lively backdrop. I always notice some new art, fun sign and table décor on every visit! The overall ambiance is welcoming and energetic, perfect for a casual date night or for a fun night out with a larger group of friends and family.
The service is also second to none – the staff is super friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. When asked, they will not hesitate to offer recommendations!
The menu offers a wide variety of authentic Mexican dishes! We always start off with guacamole made to order with freshly fried tortilla chips. For mains, the birria tacos and chorizo burrito are true standouts. We have also tried their street tacos, birria pizza, chimichanga, flaming cheese, and the milanesa – and have never been disappointed!
The drink menu is also super impressive with any options for those craving traditional Mexican spirits! The margaritas are an absolute must try – made with fresh ingredients and no mix! And if you happen to save room for dessert you cannot miss out on the churros! Crispy on the outside and warm and tender on the inside, they are served with a side of chocolate or caramel sauce – and are amazing! Prices are super reasonable and this restaurant definitely should be on your must try list! You won’t be...
