I never write reviews but myself and my group of black and minority friends have experienced the most blatant acts of RACISM, especially by the bald unnecessarily rude and aggressive security guard at the front. Along with this complaint, I’m definitely sending emails to whoever it needs to go to so that this type of racist micro-aggression is stopped asap.
There was an altercation at Bourbon. It had nothing to do with our group, but we were near. Mind you, our group is composed of most black tall men. One of our friend is 6 foot 6 and quite big, he is BLACK. Before you even try to say anything, he has a full-time job and graduated; he conducts himself respectfully AND professionally every time we are there. When the fight broke out, he and two other BLACK guys stood from their seat to move AWAY. Even though it had NOTHING to do with us, a security guard went up to them and told him to sit down because he was making, “the crowd uncomfortable by standing”. Excuse-me? And who else were standing right beside the fight and were told nothing? ALL THE WHITE MEN.
We we’re all waiting in line. The line did not move for 2 hours. That security guard kept coming outside swearing at us to thin out the line, which is understandable. None of us said anything to him and squeezed as much as we could so we don’t annoy him. HOWEVER, our group composed of 4 tall black guys and about 7 minority women, left the line since we had been waiting too long. AT THAT EXACT MOMENT, THE SECURITY GUARD LET IN ALL (about 10) THE SHORT WHITE LITTLE GIRLS that had been behind us inside Bourbon even though NOBODY HAD COME OUT. Again, racist.
My brother had been wearing a durag that ENTIRE DAY because he just had a haircut and wanted to keep his hair nice and wavey. That bald headed security guard said to him, “If you were to come in here, I would make you throw that shyt into the garbage.” Excuse-me? In 2022? A durag is a protective hairstyle, educate yourselves and how dare you think it’s alright to say that?
One of our members, who is also black, was wearing a black t-shirt and a basketball jersey, jeans and air forces. The same bald headed security guard told him, “You can come in this time, but you can’t wear jerseys in here I’m not letting you in next time.” Excuse-me? There are women that walk in with bras, and men that were literally wearing sandals with socks. A jersey? At a bar? That plays basketball games on their screens too? You’re telling me that wasn’t a racist microagression?
We go in there and spend 500$ every time since our group buys rounds of 10-15 shots. We never had an altercation, we’re even friends with a few workers there so if you believe that this is alright to treat minorities then shame on you. Racism in 2022? In Tecumseh, the city I grew up in my entire life? Yeah right, I’m not letting this...
Read moreFirst time here, a group of 4. Pros and cons to this place. First the pros, food was on point. Everyone in our group were served at the same time, everything seemed fresh and hot when it hit the table. We all enjoyed our food, and the steaks were cooked as ordered (several other places tend to miss this mark). Now the cons, front of house staff is lacking. This is going to sound biased so I’ll apologize in advance. Servers bar staff and hosts all seemed young, and more interested in socializing and using their phones. Several front of house staff we’re hanging around the end of the bar, eating and drinking. 3 different people were at the hostess station at various times using the phone. It was quite a Waite between ordering drinks and them coming to the table. Our server did not follow up after the food was brought to the table, and we ended up having to go up and ask for our bill due to the wait time. Unfortunately we will not be back because of the front of house staff. If the manager or front of house manager got this in order, it would be a great venue. The kitchen staff was on point, too bad the experience at the other end was...
Read moreOur waiter (I'm so sorry, I forget your n'aime but you were wearing a pearl necklace and had short black hair) was excellent, super super kind person. The service and the atmosphere were the best parts. My sangria was great, but they were out of both of my husband's top picks, and ran out of the cheap bourbon and it was a three dollar upcharge for what they had when my cousin ordered an old fashioned. I ordered the feta bruschetta chicken with no bruschetta (tomato allergy) side Caesar and broccoli and mozza sticks to share. The mozza sticks were great and oversized. The chicken the dish worked really well, but the chicken was over frozen in texture which threw it off. The broccoli was well seasoned, again frozen texture, but it all tastes great. My husband said their hot honey chicken pizza was to die for and thoroughly enjoyed it. All pretty typical bar stuff. "Rock Of Ages" was playing vibey music that was enjoyed pretty well across the bar, and the atmosphere was friendly and...
