Bottom line: declining quality, not worth your money.
My partner and I have been to Sovereign Room many times over the past two years. Generally we enjoy the food. The menu changes regularly and the dishes are contemporary and call on a variety of cultures for inspiration.
On our most recent visit we noticed a significant drop in food quality. We split the Beef Khao Soi and Duck Gnocchi.
The Khao Soi broth was bland. Mildly spicy but otherwise lacking much flavor. The beef was tender to the point of being mushy and also flavourless. The fried noodles were either straight from a bag, or somehow convinced us that they were.
The duck gnocchi was especially bad - overcooked bloated mush, not resembling the authentic product in texture, which is particularly insulting in a city full of home cooked Italian food. The roux in the sauce was split and under cooked, the dominant flavor in the dish being uncooked flour. The duck, much like the beef, was a flavorless mush. I would guess this kitchen is using either a sous vide or braising their meats at length in order to avoid having to cook to order or involve any real skill in preparing their dishes. The only distinguishable flavor other than flour was stale Parmesan.
Service was fine but generally lacking. We were not given a pitcher of water like the other tables around us, and when my glass was empty it was not refilled.
Prices are above average for the product. They're attempting to sit at the table with Tomlin and other high end restaurants in the city but punching in a much lighter...

I recently visited The Sovereign Room with high hopes of indulging in some delicious pizza. While the pizza certainly lived up to my expectations, I found the other food offerings to be rather lackluster.
Let's start with the star of the show – the pizza. The Sovereign Roomtruly excels in this department. The crust was perfectly thin and crispy, with a delightful chewiness. The sauce had a well-balanced tanginess, and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. Each bite was a delightful explosion of cheesy goodness. If you're a pizza lover, this place is definitely worth a visit.
However, my excitement diminished when I tried some of the other dishes on the menu. The non-pizza options, such as Duck Poutine and Gravy, were quite mediocre. The flavors seemed to lack depth, and the execution fell short of my expectations. It felt as though the focus and attention to detail that went into the pizza were not replicated in the other dishes.
On a positive note, the service at The Sovereign Room was friendly and attentive. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and provided helpful recommendations. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and inviting, creating a pleasant dining experience.
In conclusion, if you're craving excellent pizza, The Sovereign Room is a great choice. The pizza alone makes it a worthwhile visit. However, if you're looking for a well-rounded dining experience with consistently impressive food beyond the pizza, you may want to explore...
Read moreHubby and I are infrequent visitors to this restaurant, we maybe come here a few times a year but always order the same thing and it's always great. Although, our last takeout order was quite sad and we were left hungry, before we couldn't finish our meal. We always order the same thing, poutines with the buttermilk chicken. The poutines used to fill the entire bottom of the carton, now the portions we received were half of that. The flavours were nothing to get excited over this time. We received the food without a bag too, most places they wouldn't expect you to juggle 4 hot cartons of food. We're really disappointed with what we received and there was no customer service. We understand that sometimes restaurants will have an inconsistent day and this is most likely not a new normal for them, but it was so bad we will not be returning...
