Marina Park — Attraction in Thunder Bay

Marina Park is a local gem on the shore of Lake Superior just a short walk away from the north side downtown (once known as and still frequently referred to as downtown Port Arthur). The park features a skateboard park, a marina, children's playground, a restaurant, many pedestrian trails, and a splash pad that doubles as a skating rink during the winter months. A stage is also setup during the summer for festivals and concerts. Pedestrian access to the park from the downtown north core is still in a state of reconstruction and there is still no date as to when it will be reinstalled. Parking in and around the park can also be a huge issue especially during scheduled events and in some instances sections, if not all of the park can be shut off to the public. Marina Park is a great place to see beautiful sunrises. I love to walk around the island and along the boardwalk. When the waves are pounding the shore during a storm, I prefer to listen from the car and watch the spray of the water splash over the huge rocks.

Marina Park has something for everyone. There is a skateboard park, playground, movies in the summer, concerts. Blues Festival, Canada Day celebrations and fireworks and a marina for boats to park.

Sail Superior does sail boat tours from the marina and there are sailboat races that can be seen from shore. For those interested, there is a place you can go to where extra hands are taken...

I walked a couple laps around the Marina. There are activities of all sorts going on here. Sailboats, BBQ, Skate Park, Concerts and more. A great place to walk around and enjoy the scenery of the sleeping giant. I could sit there all day if I bring some food with me picnic style. If I didn't have anything to eat, I would still be in walking distance to quite a few top notch restaurants in the area.
