Title: Fantastic Northern Chinese Comfort Food - Consistently Great!
This was my second visit to Bao Zi Ke, and just like the first time, the experience was excellent! They truly capture that authentic Northern Chinese taste – simple, satisfying, and perfectly balanced. The food is never overly oily or greasy, which I really appreciate.
Our go-to orders are the Tomato & Egg Noodles and the Steamed Pork Buns (Xiao Long Bao), both of which are delicious and reliable. This time, we also tried the Fried Pork Ribs and the Marinated Cucumbers. The ribs were tasty, and the cucumbers were incredibly refreshing and appetizing. Everything we ate left us feeling satisfied but never overly full or heavy.
Although the restaurant is cozy in size, the modern interior design creates a really pleasant atmosphere. The owner/manageress is very welcoming and provides great service.
I also find their ordering system efficient and unique: they give you a laminated menu where you mark your choices with a marker, then hand it directly to her to place the order. It works well!
The only downside is the parking situation, especially during busy lunchtimes. The lot is quite small and shared with neighboring businesses like the TD Bank and other shops. The spaces near the bank can be particularly tight and narrow, so just be careful when parking.
Overall, Bao Zi Ke offers delicious, comforting food in a clean, modern setting with friendly service. The parking can be tricky at peak times, but it's definitely worth it for the quality of the meal! Highly recommended and I'll...
Read moreExceptional Chinese classics! Homemade flavours. Even in China this place would be a massive hit. Bao-zi-ke serves as a reminder that here in Toronto we get world class chinese cuisine without flying 20+ hours to the motherland. Authentic and delicious.
Their pig intestine stir-fry with peppers is a marvel to be revered. Almost everything on the menu is a A+.
A reviewer named Hurik Katar gave this place a 1 star review. This place is authentic. If you believe chinese food should all taste like manchu wok or the mandarin, you will not enjoy this regional Chinese food. Only eat here if you have a base understanding that chinese cuisine has regional specialties and differences throughout China. Without this understanding and the distorted belief all chinese food should taste like the north american fast food style chinese junk, you will not appreciate this amazing cuisine.
Tip#1: Don't sit in, pay for take out. The place is miniscule and you will always wait in line if sitting in during peak hours. Most of their business is take-out. I believe if you use a chinese app to order take-out they give you a 10% discount.
Tip#2: always call them first to see if they are open. I have never seen a restaurant closed more often. 3x we went and each time we found them closed when they were supposed to be open. First time the kitchen equipment broke, second time they were on vacation and 3rd time I...
Read moreI was around the area and was craving for bao zi (Chinese Bun) last summer and googled this place, which was just across the street I was at. I was very pleased to find this place. I ordered some Shanghai Shio Lung Pao (it was so juicy and fresh) and some different kinds of dumplings as well as pan-fried dumplings for takeout. They were tasty, but I believe the food will taste better if eaten at the restaurant right away rather than taking it home. However, the place is very small and could only fit about 14 to 16 people. I had to wait about 20 mins for the food since they are made fresh and maybe also because they just opened that month when I visited. The lady who must be one of the owners was very friendly and introduced the dishes quite well. They also had some San Tung Da Paos (specialty big baos from the province of San Tung) that you need to pre-order with a minimum order of 30 pieces for $2.5 each. (Price might have changed now. ) They also have frozen dumplings that you can order and eat at a later time at home.
I would recommend this place for people who are craving for Chinese buns or dumplings as you won't be disappointed. I'd give it a 4.2/5 rating and would like to go back to dine in with my husband, who is a...
