I ruined one white shirt here and am prepared to ruin a few more in the future, need I say more? No but really I had TideToGo on hand and the broth splatter washed out pretty easily.
Jokes aside - the boat noodles come in a small ($15) and medium ($20) size offering, I went with the small as I wanted to try an appetizer but wasn’t feeling too hungry. You get a choice of protein between either Beef, Braised Beef or Pork and a choice of noodles between Wonton Noodles, Rice Noodles and Vermicelli. I went with the Braised Beef and my server said that the rice noodles were the most popular so I ended up going with those. The dish was excellent, the noodles had the right bite to them, I would’ve preferred braised beef to be more tender and melt in your mouth but it was still tasty but the broth definitely carried the dish being packed with spices, and was so flavorful without putting your mouth off by the end of the meal. They provide a set of sauces to add to your but I didn’t bother to add any in as I was enjoying my meal as is, maybe next time. The pork balls were piping hot when served, they tasted alright but were less so when they’d cooled off so make sure to have them first, I forgot about my last skewer once I started digging into my noodles leaving it to get cold. As a person who doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth, the Thai Iced Tea here was probably the best I’ve had to date as most places make theirs too sweet for me but this was just right.
The restaurant’s aesthetic and being at the back of an actual little Thai mart/convenience store is honestly quite cute and leaves you with some snacks to check out for picking up to have at home.
If I had one thing to complain about it would the table height. They’re fine for having drinks or dry food but if you want to avoid having broth from your noodle soups splatter your be bent halfway over into the low table with your face basically in your bowl like I and the customer at the next table over from me both were. I unfortunately looked over to them and realized this strategy only after having splatter some broth on my shirt.
I’ve heard good things about their pork noodles and will probably go back soon to check those out.
Less than 2 weeks later I’ve been back to try the pork noodles. The clear broth lends itself to adding in the extra sauces. Overall I preferred the boat noodles. I also got the Look Chin Tod which was great and the Kek Huay to drink which was also...
Read moreDue to my personal fond of Thai cuisines and noodles, I always keep an eye on Thai eateries whether restaurants or food court spots.
Since I had tried traditional Thai boat noodles in Thailand, I always order boat noodles wherever I can. Recently some friends recommended a new shops opened in downtown Toronto and they serve traditional boat noodles and contain ingredients like pork, beef, pickled bean curd, dark soy sauce, cow blood and spices. It sounds tempting and indulging.
Just a small note on the boat noodles: its name came from the way it’s typically served from boats in the canals of Bangkok, where it’s prepared by a single merchant on the boat.
The boat noodles are made with garlic, Chinese broccoli and coriander, and options for protein include braised beef, beef, braised pork, pork. The boat noodles is very flavourful spicy broth with tender braised meat. (Just meat in hour mouth). Bye careful when choosing the spicy level, mild is just perfect; however I think the medium level maybe quite spicy.
For those who do not fancy the uniquely rich cow blood flavour, Can try other noodle soups like lemon pork, pork noodle, tom yum seafood. Patrons can choose noodles options: wonton noodles, rice noodles or vermicelli. (Wonton noodles are the best, freshly chewy; vermicelli are bit soft when soaked in soup).
555 Boat Noodles serves appetizers like steamed meatballs and fried wontons. Fried crispy wontons filled with tasty minced pork, great taste. Next time may try the Pork and Shrimp Dumplings appetizer.
Patrons can choose a Thai iced tea, chrysanthemum juice or pandan juice to compliment with meal. Taste of Thai iced tea is perfect not too sweet. Thumbs up for mango sticky rice. It is quite a sweet treat for completion of a great meal. The black sticky rice is cooked to perfection and it goes well with the mango.
The look of the restaurant is inspired by the vibrancy of a canal market with lots of colour inside and out, including colourful window panes and shutters. The wall is decorated with interesting and colorful drawings, the server told me that they were drawn by a Thai artist based on a well known novel.
The Restaurant is quite small however the colorful interior decor is quite charming. The food comes out quick and service is good especially the attentive and pleasant...
Read moreLocated north of College Station, just off Grosvenor Street, 555 Boat Noodle offers authentic Thai noodle dishes. The restaurant operates on a walk-in waitlist only. Food is delicious, portion sizes were generous and we would come back again to try more of the menu!
The menu, while small and specialized, offers a variety of options from appetizers, noodle soups, and rice bowls. Their bowl of noodles can come in a small or large size which could easily be shared as the large served about 2 people. During our visit, we ordered the Thai Milk Tea, Fried Wonton, Boat Noodles (Braised Beef), Tom Yum Seafood Noodles, and Mango Sticky Rice. The Thai Milk Tea was really rich, tasty and definitely a highlight! The Fried Wontons had a flavourful pork and cabbage filling accompanied by a spicy chili sauce. The Boat Noodles are customizable, allowing customers to select their choice of meat and noodles, all served in a slightly umami soup base. The Tom Yum Seafood Noodles had deep Tom Yum flavours and satisfied our craving for the classic Tom Yum taste. For the other menu items, the staff mentioned that the Yentafo, a noodle soup, was made with fermented tofu. To end off our experience, we enjoyed the Mango Sticky Rice, which featured warm glutinous rice topped with fresh mango, a must order!
The decor, reminiscent of Asian hawker stalls, creates an inviting ambiance both inside and outside. The seating arrangement includes approximately ten tables for two and several for three, with the flexibility to merge tables to accommodate groups of four. Upon our arrival at 5 PM, the atmosphere was relatively quiet, but by 5:30-5:45 PM, the restaurant began to fill up, with a few customers waiting for tables by 6 PM. There is a small area to wait for a table at the entrance. Payment is conveniently processed via a portable machine brought directly to the table which accepts...
