I love Jamaican food. I am not Jamaican. Chances are you're not Jamaican. Chances are you love Jamaican food too. Where can you find good Jamaican food? Allwyn's Bakery. You're welcome. On this particular day, I was starving and had a keen desire to satisfy my Jamaican beef patty craving, so I stopped by Allwyn's for the first time. This small bakery specializes in not only patties, but jerk chicken, oxtail, and curry. You'll find the bakery in a small strip mall just off the Don Valley Parkway. There is a small amount of seating, but not enough for large groups. In any case, you're not stopping here for the decor, so don't sweat it. As I mentioned, my main intention was patties, but destiny called me to order a jerk chicken sandwich on coco bread along with the patty. Put simply, the patty was nice, and featured a denser pastry than your typical Golden Crust type patty. It was a nice variation. That being said, the star of the show turned out to be that godsend jerk chicken sandwich! Everything started with that flavour haven jerk chicken. I have no clue what their preparation process is for it, but I'd imagine that there's a good amount of marinating that occurs in order to infuse the meat with such rich flavour. As I savoured my way through the sandwich, I eventually forgot the succulent meat was chicken. To counter balance the heavily meaty flavour, Allwyn's adds a fair bit of moist coleslaw to the mix. Everything is wrapped by good old fashioned coco bread. Note that Allwyn's is cash only. And since you're paying cash anyway, pay respect and tip aunty behind the counter and the good work they're doing. After eating here, you should have it in your spirit to tip anyway. If you can't tell yet, I'm a fan of this place. Off of the strength of the jerk chicken sandwich alone, this was a five star experience. Get your life right; go to Allwyn's.

Similar to other Jamaican spots in Toronto, it’s a more take-out/pick-up type of restaurant, so just keep that in mind when going to get a bite. What’s nice about Allwyn’s is that the food was super hot and fresh, as we even waited some extra minutes for the Oxtail. Additionally, the two gentle men working that day were super kind and had great customer service. I ordered their Jerk Chicken Sandwich, Large Oxtail Plate, 1/2 Jerk Pork and Side Oxtail. YO, the Jerk Chicken Sandwich????? BUSSSSSSSIN. That joint was too nice, the chicken was tender and juicy, the jerk spice was delicious, there was the perfect amount of coleslaw and the bread just came in harmony. I really wish I ordered a second one because it was that good. The Oxtail Plate was excellent! The meat was falling off the bone, the gravy was AMAZING, and you could really taste the browning. The rice and peas tasted as it should lol, and their coleslaw is so simple but effective. One thing I will say is that on the menu, they depicted the plate coming with some plantain on the side, and it did not so that sucked. The side Oxtail was actually a great portion for the price, like if I lived in the GTA, I’d be consistently ordering that and making the sides myself at home to last a few nights for dinner. Seriously some of the best Oxtail I’ve ever had. As for the pork, this was actually my first time trying Jerk Pork, and it really good as well. Man, until I find a successor, Allwyn’s Bakery can hold its crown as best Jamaican restaurant I’ve ever been to. I seriously look forward to the day that we meet again. 🤤

Visited recently for a light lunch in the Donlands area. Allwyn's is one of the popular Jamaican spots in the city, with multiple locations throughout with their Donlands Mall location being one of their original locations. They serve many of the usual Jamaican staples such as Coco Bread, Patties, Jerk Chicken and Oxtail dishes. One of the items they are known for are their sandwiches, which are made with their in-house Coco Bread and filled with either their patty, jerk chicken and coleslaw or a mix of everything. Their Jerk Chicken Sandwich is essentially a couple pieces of boneless jerk chicken and coleslaw wrapped around coco bread. Probably the best value is their stuffed sandwich which contains a mix of everything stuffed within coco bread and a patty. Overall, it's a recommended spot in the area in terms of value given that the sandwiches are under $10 and small dish versions of their Jerk Chicken and Oxtail on Rice and Peas are around $11-14. Note that it is strictly cash-only (no debit or credit) so it's recommended to come prepared to pay cash

Cute little store with a “family-operated” vibe about it. I’ll start by saying the food was FANTASTIC. The patty was amazing though I was really disappointed by them not having any mild patties.

I’ve taken away a star because while the food and space itself had a family-operated vibe, the employees were not the same. The first employee, she was nice and helpful, but the second girl was less than nice. We realized the order was about $10 more then it should’ve been and instead of helping us figure it out she said “no. That’s the price. $28. No. It’s right.” Until we eventually said everything we ordered and she reluctantly said, “oh.” and finally changed it.

Every person in that line, three groups, had something missing or wrong with their order. The person in front of us was missing the patty in the sandwich, we had an extra sandwich, and the guy behind us wanted mild patties and they only had spicy.

Also, if you’re going, the prices have increased quite a bit on the sandwiches and some other menu items.

Anyways, despite all that, I will definitely go back, and I will definitely recommend this spot...
