I generally don’t post negative reviews but I feel that I’ve now reached the point where I need to express my disappointment. Let me say first that I’ve been visiting this shop for a few years now and I’m always happy to provide second, third or more chances as I’ve worked in the industry and I know sometimes people make mistakes. I found their products to be great when they were still in the small shop, taste was excellent, service was great and quick. However after the expansion things started to change: several times I went in for espresso and croissant. The service was quite disappointing: long waiting times to be served while you can clearly see other servers doing nothing. Long time to make a coffee. No smile, no greeting. This happened at least three or four times but as I said, I like to give people a second chance. I went back several times for their pastries. The servers were rude and did not know what they were serving. I was told a pastry had chocolate and instead it was vanilla, a cake-pop was supposed to be vanilla and it was instead something else. Another pastry was supposed to be chocolate and walnut and it turned out it wasn’t and had some liquor (or at least some liquor-tasting flavour). Lastly, I went in recently for a croissant. The server placed the croissant in the to-go box and was ready to hand it to me but before doing that, she explained that I needed to pay cash as their internet was down. While I totally understand the consequences of not having internet and the ask to pay cash, based on my experience, this is something that you tell the customer BEFORE serving them. I told the server “you should have told me first” and I got a laugh back. I said I only had a few dollars in cash, so either they accepted that or they could have kept the croissant. She said she could not hence I repeated “ok but you should have told me before serving me” and I walked out. I want to believe that their products are still great but the service gives everything a bad taste. And while I appreciate their products offering and variety, the cleanliness and beauty of the space and the beautiful boxes in which they pack your pastries to go, I believe it would be better to invest in training your staff to be nice, and overall to delivering a better...
Read moreThis place is a travesty of an establishment. Do not have any expectations or standards. Do not waste your time or bus fare or gas or foot energy to visit. Not authentic, not of high quality. Very deceiving as you would expect something heavenly from the markeup. You go in and expect it to be of upmost excellence but it's a front.
The Zeppole filling reminded me of boxed Jell-O Vanilla Lemon pudding... Its cherry was so artificial that it reminded me of cough syrup reminiscent of Dimetapp... and its pastry was very "eggy". Their Baba was "eggy" was soggy and stale, trying to be some kind of sweet bread clearly devoid of personality.
I feel like I truly wasted my money. I would have rather not stepped foot in here at all. Save your money & all hopes of any standards or quality. I assume all the money is used towards the aesthetics of this establishment as they certainly forgot their measuring cups. Maybe next time I can drop some off from Ikea? They can definitely benefit from some genuine baking classes/courses or genuine Italian recipes.
I have yet to try the small sized raspberry crostata that I have purchased to utter and deep regrets. I am truthfully disappointed in advance of tasting it. Wish me luck.
Such an extreme disappointment to any authentic Italian roots. If East Side Mario made pastries, then maybe they would have a chance as a palatable business.
To reference Donnie Brasco : "This place is a fugazi!" (Really though). I wanted to give this place a negative rating but unfortunately I couldn't because Google would not allow me. I was forced to give a star just like I was forced to finish their pastries.

Read moreI live in the neighborhood, I've been their customer for years. Even this week I visited twice already. I agree they make good foods but good customer service? I recently felt that their customer service is getting unprofessional and worse than before but everyone is having hard time to have good employees so I tried to understand but NO today.
Today I asked questions about pastry but they didn't give me proper explanation, just chuckle each other. I saw a yellow pastry so I asked "What is it? Is it something lemon?" And she said "yes". So unprofessional. Shouldnt she say at least the name of it? I saw a brown square so I asked "is it a tiramisu?" And she also said "yes". No extra explanation. I got it but it wasn't really a regular tramisu. It had a layer of thick chocolate/nutella cream instead of mascarpone cream which I wouldn't take it if I knew.
They have a quite wide cash register and the lady didnt "give" me a spoon. She puts it in front of her so I had to stretch my arm to grab it. From the beginning to the end, I got very unpleasant feeling that she doesn't treat me as a customer.
After I made a payment, I was eating my food at the table and all of sudden someone started cleaning. One lady sweeping the floor with a broom even under the chair I sat. I didn't spill anything, it wasn't closing time, I was the only one seating there, I have no idea why they have to make someone eating their food uncomfortable in that way. If you want me to be out, just tell me. Don't be shady. I have no idea where this behavior coming from. Is it because I only made a small purchase? Or because I'm not white? Or because they had a bad day? Whatever the reason was, I definitely...
