Bao Is Life — Restaurant in Toronto

So the popcorn chicken was just straight up delicious. Chef knows his way around batter and a deep fryer - it was a light coating and crispy with the chicken still juicy (even after I brought it home and reheated it for a few minutes in my air fryer). I had asked for the chipotle mayo but Roger was so kind that he also offered up the yuzu honey mayo so that we could try both. I'm surprised at how much I liked the yuzu because I would usually go for the heat to cut the grease, but really, you can't go wrong with either. The hubby raved about the yuzu for ages so he had a clear winner. Roger was also super patient with me as I was overwhelmed by all the choices at the food hall; he ran around grabbing menus, and honestly seemed to be cheering on his fellow entrepreneurs. We got the pork belly and FC baos. The pork belly is my favourite as the portion of meat per bao is generous, the balance of flavours with the pickled mustard greens and the nut free option of sun flower seed toppings.

My first time having the FC bao and I was impressed by the complexity from the yuzu mayo to cut the richness of the fat from the chicken. They compliment each other well. It was still crunchy in texture and the chicken was juicy.

Walked in as the Restaurant was closing (sincerely sorry) and ordered the popcorn chicken and 2 Karaage Baos.

The popcorn chicken is excellent. Nice crunch on the fry of the chicken thigh meat. The interior is juicy and you get decent sized chicken bites.

The Karaage Baos are great. The fresh soft. Steamed bun, with the Yuzu Honey Mayo, and Togarashi flakes on top of the chicken is the perfect bite. That Yuzu Honey Mayo is my favourite thing. Definitely order a side of it.
