4.5/5

Prior to COVID, Big Trouble Pizza was one of my favorite pizza spots in Toronto, known for its unique pizza combinations like Raspberry Jam, Balsamic Reduction, and Mozzarella or Prosciutto, Cremini Mushrooms, and Truffle-Infused Ricotta.

After closing their previous location, they’ve now reopened bigger and better, expanding their menu to include not only pizza but also burgers. Since I had previously reviewed their pizza a few years back, this review will focus primarily on their burgers.

Upon recommendation from one of the workers, I decided to try the Big Trouble Burger (the original), even though I’ve sampled many smash burgers across Toronto. The first bite was a revelation—the soft potato bun, the crispy crust of the beef patty with the perfect fat-to-meat ratio, and the standout element, the sauce. That extra sweetness, which may go unnoticed by most, made my eyes widen in awe. Aside from Extra Burger, I have not had a burger that has impressed me this much in a long time, 9.5/10.

The burger was so exceptional that I had to compliment the chef, who insisted I try the other two burgers on the menu—the Kwispy Wanch Burger and the Roast-Lahoma Burger.

Firstly, I must express my abhorrent disdain for the name of the Kwispy Wanch Burger. However, setting the name aside, the burger has all the makings of a top-tier burger. I would rate this burger a 7.5/10. What it lacks is the tanginess, which can come from the ranch or the pickled onions, or from pickling the jalapeños. Though, I did really like the fresh crunch the jalapeños provided.

The Roast-Lahoma Burger also earns a 7.5/10 rating from me. The essence of the Oklahoma Burger lies in letting the sweetness of the onions shine, where the vapour of the onions would perfume the beef. Unfortunately, the onions naturally sweetness was overshadowed by the dijonnaise. Although roasting the onions was a good idea, I felt there was a lack of onion flavour which can come from cooking the onions a bit longer to bring out their natural sweetness.

In conversation with Eddie, the mastermind behind these burgers, I gained insight into his dedication to quality and consistency. He emphasized his close collaboration with the butcher next door to ensure a consistent fat-to-meat ratio in each burger. Eddie’s meticulous approach involves preparing a small portion of the meat blend each morning and cooking it to perfection to maintain consistent quality.

Overall, including both burgers and the pizza, I give Big Trouble a solid 4.5/5. I’m hopeful that they’ll become a neighborhood staple and continue to delight customers with their creative and...

Big Trouble Pizza in Toronto truly lives up to the hype! We ordered the Try It All box, which gave us a great sampling of their creative offerings. The standout for me was the Keanu pizza—it was absolutely delicious. Topped with mozzarella, cream cheese, double-smoked cheddar, diced pancetta, pineapple glaze, chives, and black pepper, it’s a flavor explosion. The combination of creamy cheeses, savory pancetta, and the subtle sweetness of the pineapple glaze, tied together with chives and a touch of black pepper, was a game-changer. It felt indulgent without being overwhelming—pure perfection!

Another unique highlight was their dill dipping sauce. It was a refreshing twist on the usual garlic dip and paired perfectly with the crust. Big Trouble Pizza really knows how to elevate the small details, making every bite memorable.

While we came for the pizza, we ended up really loving the burgers! We tried their smash burger with fries and the Kwispy Wanch Burger, which were absolutely incredible. Made with quality beef sourced from The Butcher’s Son, the Kwispy Wanch Burger is topped with American cheese, crispy onion, ranch sauce, jalapeño, pickled red onion, and served on a soft potato roll. The flavors were bold and perfectly balanced, and with no modifications allowed, you get to experience the burger exactly as it was intended—pure, delicious craftsmanship.

And I can’t forget the Butter Jam Pizza—a dessert pizza that is pure genius! The combination of jam and lemon zest buttercream is sweet, tangy, and buttery, with just the right balance of flavors. It’s the perfect way to finish off your meal and leaves a lasting impression.

The customer service was excellent—friendly and attentive, adding to the experience. While the vibe of the space was a bit lackluster, the food more than made up for it.

If you’re looking for bold, unique flavors and something a little different from the typical pizza experience, I’d highly recommend giving Big Trouble Pizza a try. Their creative approach and attention to detail make it a must-visit...

I drove an hour and fifteen minutes to come try this!

Walking in, I was immediately greeted by the friendly staff. I love the aesthetic of the place. You just know you're in for a treat.

I got a chance to try their butter jam, pepperoni, and Keanu slices. Don't let the thickness of the slices fool you, these eat very light and have the most amazing fluffiness to them without sacrificing the crunch and chew you're looking for. These were some of the most unique and delicious slices I've had in the city. The butter jam was surprisingly balanced and not overly sweet. The pepperoni was classic. The Keanu was my favorite. I loved the smokiness of it, and the pineapple glaze brought everything together, giving it the most perfect sweet and savory bite.

I also got a chance to try their original smash burger. A nice pillowy soft potato bun, well seasoned and slightly crispy patty, no overpowering sauces or cheeses, it all comes together in the most classic way. This is what I picture when I think of a smash burger. It's not overly salty, oily or dry. It's just right. It's now one of my favorite smash burgers in the city/GTA.

Eddie, one of the owners, took the time to sit down with me and share the story behind the restaurant. Growing up with restauranteur parents, I always appreciate a good food story. If you do something right and with passion, the people will come. If you're reading this, Eddie, I really appreciate your time and generosity!

There's something to be said when a restaurant can put out a quality slice and burger. Not only offering classics, but flavorful and unique combinations all under one roof is difficult to do. Not many places can do this.

You can tell they really care and appreciate their customers and staff. I'll definitely be...

I'd eaten there once before, but yesterday's visit called for a 5 star review. Anders I believe his name was, amazing amazing service, I'm a stickler for good service, he blew us all away. We ordered 4 pizzas and some drinks, easy peasy, hung out on the patio while they were being made. They were enthusiastically delivered to our table by Anders, he also brought out a Bluetooth speaker and told us we can pick the music, which was awesome, and then he came out later and treated our table to some of that incredible tiramisu, I almost didn't have enough room after devouring my spicy pepperoni pizza, but I had to try it, there was no skipping out on it... And yep, absolutely delicious. What I really enjoy about the pizza is that it's light, fluffy with the right amount of crispy, cooked just right with I believe corn meal dusted on the bottom, and not too much or too little sauce or cheese. Easily some of the best pizza sauce I've tried. This place is my official go-to in the area now, after that service and yet another delicious za, it means that my first experience wasn't a one off, that's just how they roll at Big Trouble Pizza. Just writing this review made me want to go back again for more. 🤤🤤
