Bread King Bakery — Restaurant in Toronto

In contrary to most of the reviews here I did not have a good experience with them with my last 1 year of being a customer. On my first or second visit there I asked them why they don’t mention the manufacturing date on their product, why just having a poster on the wall saying products are good for 7 days which essentially doesn’t mean anything without a manufacturing date. They did not like my question and started telling me how renowned their business is and what not. I didn’t bug them much. Later on whenever I asked anything about their products like what are the ingredients or so, I never felt welcomed. But I still went there because I support mom and dad shops rather than big corporations. But something happened today which lead me to write this review. Due to the COVID-19 situation I avoid using cash and only use my credit card when I go for groceries. When I was in front of the register to pay I told them I don’t have any cash on me. The middle aged lady gave a terrible look and said in utter disgust- “this is the last time I am allowing this, bring cash next time” as if I was asking for alms. I thought the disgust was because they have to pay charge when they’ll cash out my credit payment, but no they charged extra on top of my bill because I paid with credit card. If you’re going to sell cookies for $1.50 each, maybe consider making them edible. I went in to pick up some cookies and got 2 different kinds, chocolate & oatmeal. Both were hard as rocks / burnt & just a huge disappointment. Doesn’t really inspire me to try other things from the bakery because cookies are some of the simplest things to make and if those were that disappointing I don’t plan on wasting my money to support a business that prioritizes quantity over quality. If you’re expecting / hoping for fresh baked goods, save yourself the disappointment. Also I understand that it’s family owned but maybe keep your family drama container. I came here about a week ago because my daughter wanted a pizza bun before we started our food shopping at tasteco, after getting her the bun i walked over to the rack they have of "day old" pastries and things, only to to find almost every bag on the rack covered in thick green mold. I told the lady that was behind the deli meat and cheese counter quietly as there were other people in the bakery shopping, to which she shrugged her shoulders and walked away without saying a word to get a garbage can. And tossed them into it one by one like it was a waste of her precious time. We will not be going back for pastries, pizza buns or anything else.
