The pastries you never knew you needed! Castle and coal is easily one of my top pastry shops in the city, whether i'm craving something sweet or savoury. They offer a wide range of pastries and snacks, and constantly introduce new items on the menu to keep things interesting. I haven't tried anything of theirs that I haven't loved. Most of their menu features items that I haven't seen at any other pastry shops, such as their Kouign Amann and Gallete de Rois. Aside from everything being delicious, their unique menu is what I love most as it allows me to try new pastries each time I order. The quality of their items is similar to what you'd expect from going to a Michelin star restaurant, except you'd only be paying a fraction of the price. I highly recommend Castle and Coal to all my friends and family, and can guarantee that your experience trying their food will be nothing short of amazing. When you stop by be sure to try their sticky toffee cake. And Kouign Aman.. and Lemon Tart and basically as much as your...
Read moreI cannot believe that I didn’t visit this bakery earlier. They have a good selection of pastries, cookies, cake, and even cheesecake. I got the canele and ontario strawberry kough aaman. The price is a little bit high, but I think these are the best canele and ontario strawberry kough aaman I’ve ever had. The canele has a good texture, very creamy, and very crunchy caramel outside layer. I think they’re recipe for canele is the perfect one because they look very evenly baked inside.
The kough aaman, oh my god, where do I even start. This is my second time having kough aaman, and it was so soft and light and airy and battery, and a parrot perfectly with a strawberry jam and the diplomat cream. I see that they have really good quality pastry just from this one. I am definitely coming back to try to try they are carrot cake, butter croissants, and cookies. The staff was very friendly that bakery was right behind the counter so I know the the baked good is fresh. Such an...
Read moreI tried a few things and they were just average. Croissant - standard tasting, nothing exciting. Canele - maybe I just don’t like caneles but these weren’t very interesting tasting either. Chocolate chip cookie - had that crispy overbaked taste and texture I don’t like in chocolate chip cookies. Basque cheesecake - worst one I’ve had. Overly cheesy tasting, also had some weird taste, and you can’t taste the burnt top that much. Service - did not seem warm, almost like they’re doing you a favour by serving you. And I don’t agree with these bakeries and cafes prompting for tips on the machine when you are going up to them and getting the stuff yourself. They are literally just doing their job. I work in the service industry too but not one where you get tipped for your work. I can understand giving tips for sit down service, but not these types of places where you’re in and out and got...
