Hole in the wall HK style diner in my native plaza. The interior brings back nostalgia from the days of the 90s and early 2000s Chinese restaurants, but it is a little run down and could use some upgrades. Service was typical from a classic “cha chan tang”, I spoke with the waitresses/aunties in Cantonese, but I do believe they speak some English as well. And typical in the sense that they were straight to the point, and quick. They would refill my tea glass when it was empty. But enough jibber jabber, lets talk about the food. Theres variety, and a lot of Hong Kong classics. I had the curry chicken, which came with rice, milk tea, and a Chinese soup, or tong! The curry chicken wasn’t anything special, but man, did it come out fast. As soon as I placed my order, and went to the washroom, the chicken curry was ready for me to demolish. It came with sautéed peppers, and some yummy golden potatoes. And can we talk about the milk tea! It was so good! I’ve had milk tea in Hong Kong before, and this decadent drink was right up that alley. The tong wasn’t anything special, but the food was overall super comforting, as if someone’s uncle or auntie cooked it for you. I got some chicken wings to go for my sister (8 for 13$), and although the wait for these were a little longer, it was well worth it. The wings were fragrant, well-sized, and not at all oily. From the chicken wing tax that I usually take, I bit into a crispy exterior into a juicy and tender chicken interior. Mmmmmm. The wing was well seasoned, and is definitely worth getting. They mainly take cash I believe, but you should clear that up with the aunties at...
Read moreDate of Visit: April 23, 2025 In General: Bad Sanitation, Wrong Order, Force Tipping, Overpriced Items Ordered: Fried Pork Chop w/ Salad (dine in) $12 Chicken Leg w/ Fries (dine in) $12 Chicken Wing w/ Salad (takeout) $12 Black Pepper Beef Chunks w/ Spaghetti (takeout) $14.50 Problems: They don't wash their utensils. All of the forks and knifes are extremely sticky. They have food residues that cannot be wiped clean. I didn't use their forks and knifes, but used the spoon for the milk tea to eat my lunch. Judging from this point alone, you should not visit this restaurant. Wrong dish. I ordered Chicken Leg, but the order came as Chicken Wings. I bailed them out by keeping the wings and ordered the leg again. They don't give a receipt. They only accept cash, which was extremely inconvenient. The bill was $57.10. I paid $60 cash, and the server repeatedly mention that tips were not included. She placed $2.90 change on the tray and asked for more tip. I bailed them out by keeping the chicken wings. This is the treatment I get in return. Half the bill was for takeout items and she still wanted more tips. The salad is just cantaloupe chunks in mayonnaise. Some chunks are too hard to bite. The Chicken Wing w/ Salad for $12 only had 6 pieces of wings. It's not worth $2 a piece. The Chicken Leg has little flavour. The milk tea wasn't hot enough. I couldn't melt...
Read moreI recently visited this restaurant and was overall impressed with my experience. While the service was decent, it wasn't anything particularly special. However, I have to give credit where it's due - customer service in Toronto is often subpar, so the fact that the service here was considered good by local standards is definitely a plus.
The real highlight of my visit was the food. Everything I tried was delicious and clearly made with care and attention to detail. I especially loved the curry chicken with rice, curry beef brisket and the ham and egg sandwich. The portions were generous, so I left feeling satisfied and happy.
All in all, I would recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a tasty meal in Toronto. While the service isn't exceptional, it's certainly better than what you'll find at many other places in the city. And with food this good, it's definitely...
