DO NOT waste your money here. I had a dinner here yesterday because I was craving for sushi. After searching in google, I thought this restaurant would be good as it has such high stars which is about 4 with nice reviews. Although I saw some bad reviews saying that the service is very poor, I decided to give it a try. I thought maybe the service problem is now solved or at least better than before. Also, my expectation for the service in ayce restaurant is very low. I never complained about the service of ayce restaurant before this one. BUT I was wrong. It turned out it was a very very very bad decision. I should have gone to some place else. Food - average ayce quality. Nothing special. They have very short list for ayce orders. Sashimi, sushi, some rolls, udon, teriyaki and 3 choices of ice cream for dessert. That's it. They even don't have meat menus such as short rib nor vegetable appetizers like nasu dengaku. But I don't complain about that as they provide quite various sushi & sashimi. I usually focus on sushi and sashimi when I go to sushi restaurant. Finally I would give 3 point for their food. Service - for this part, I'm completely UNSATISFIED. First of all, they only have 1 server to cover the restaurant and takeout orders including ansering the phone. At first, I felt sorry for the server. So I waited patiently even though the service is too slow and she messed up with our orders. As it was friday night, the restaurant was almost full. She, the only server, was very busy, running all over the restaurant. (They really need to hire more servers. But they don't. I guess the owner doesn't want to spend money on it) BUT my complaint is this. The server didn't evenly check on the tables. She just focused on about 2 tables with Caucasians. She didn't pay attention to our table. I kept trying to catch her attention because we didn't get our food even after 30 minutes, but she didn't even look at our side. So I called her waving my hand but she just answered 'yes' and didn't come to our table to ask if we need anything. She basically just ignored my call. I felt very bad about being ignored (it was not just once) so we decided to leave the restaurant even though we didn't finish our meal. (We couldn't as we didn't get what we ordered and we couldn't even ask to the server when it's coming or if it is coming.) When paying the bill, I said to the server that we are very unhappy with the service. She said sorry with a wierd smile!! Np sincere appology! She didn't seem to be sorry at all. Worst part is, she left our table and went to check up another table when I was telling her my dissatisfaction. She didn't spare me 10 seconds. Very rude! We spent $50 for 2 but we left hungry and went to another restaurant to fill up our stomachs. This $50 was a...
Read moreSome friends and I visited Toronto for a Google event and wanted to try some Toronto sushi the following day. We google searched all you can eat sushi and Gallery Sushi came up. Upon walking in we asked the waitress if it was All You Can Eat - to which she nodded yes. We ordered in a classic all you can eat fashion - chosing many options off of the menu. It was clear there was a language barrier between us the waitress because she continuously nodded yes to whatever we said and walked away. Anyways, we received a lot of hardly cooked, tasteless food and we felt embarrassed to waste, but didn't want to complain. We politely asked for the bill.
The waitress brings the bill and I was horrified to see that it was $93! Everything we had ordered was itemized! We told the waitress we asked her if it was all you can eat and she said we hadn't. Imagine telling someone of a conversation you had had moments before and them denying to your face that it happened?
Anyways, she went and got the cook (who spoke much better English). She immediately admitted that she thought the way in which we were ordering was like all you can eat and she had asked the waitress if we knew it wasn't. Yet she continued to argue with us and cause a scene. We told them there's no way we are paying $90 for TERRIBLE sushi and that we would pay the cost of all you can eat and that was final! We paid and left and she chased us out the door shouting "ONE OF YOU HAD A COKE!!!!!". I passed her a toonie and we left.
My advice to Gallery Sushi - cook your food better and don't put a timeframe on all you can eat! Not everyone is familiar with your menus and you shouldnt assume everyone is. Also, make sure your waitress understands what is being asked of her before...
Read moreGallery Sushi, I wish you were a perfect work of art. Too bad there's some room for improvement. Located beside AGO, I called ahead at lunch to order the Combination Bento Box. It comes with an assortment of teriyaki, tempura, sushi/sashimi/maki. Good way to pig out for lunch, as I was headed to a venue that was inconvenient for dinner.
Despite the not-so-cleansed appearance of empty beer cans at the counter front, the two-person kitchen team seemed to be productive. I received my takeout order before many tables there for AYCE. Salmon, tuna, butterfish and tilapia sashimi (10pc) tasted fresh as can be expected. Shrimp & vegetable tempura (7 pcs) were fried till slightly dry. The teriyaki salmon was lightly-seasoned so the fillet flavour was a bit off. Quantity over quality. Along with fried tofu, rice, miso soup & salad, the portion was nearly enough for 2 meals.
As part of my current menu capture, I noticed the pricing was lower than was quoted to me over the phone. First, the owner explained it was due to me not asking for lunch pricing. Then when I showed her dinner menu needs an update to reflect it, she indicated prices increased on their (non-existent) website. Sometimes it's hard to be a...
