As a Tamil-Canadian working near the Grange, discovering Jaffna Street Food felt like a dream come true. The excitement of having authentic Tamil cuisine so close to my workplace was undeniable, and I’m thrilled to say that it exceeded my expectations in every way. From the moment you walk up, you’re treated to a menu that is both delicious and affordable. They offer a wide range of Tamil classics, from the ever-popular kotthu roti to crispy rolls, and even sweet treats like wattalapam and refreshing mango shakes that evoke memories of Tamil weddings—if you know, you know! My go-to dish is their kotthu roti, and they certainly don’t skimp on the portions, especially when it comes to the protein. The generosity is much appreciated, and the flavors are authentic and rich. What truly convinced me of the authenticity was taking some food home to my Sri Lankan Tamil mother, who hails from Jaffna. Her approval speaks volumes, as it’s not easy to impress different generations with traditional dishes. Yet, Jaffna Street Food managed to do just that. The story behind the restaurant is inspiring, and the customer service is warm and welcoming, adding to the overall experience. In short, I highly recommend Jaffna Street Food. It’s not just the best Tamil food in downtown—it’s some of the best in the city.

The Grange is known for good, cheap eats and when I heard about an authentic Sri Lankan restaurant opening there, I just had to visit. I've never had Sri Lankan cuisine so I can't comment on authenticity, but as soon as I tried it I knew this to be true: A. LOT. OF. DELICIOUSNESS. I got the cheese kothu roti with chicken and chicken poutine. The kothu roti is kinda like shredded roti mixed with chicken pieces and other vegetables. I wasn't sure if it would fill me up, but I couldn't even finish my meal! The poutine is also a beast of its own and there was a generous amount of meat, fries and cheese. I've heard horror stories about Sri Lankan spice, so I went with mild and I'm glad I did. The food was not too spicy, but just spicy enough to give a lil kick while letting the aroma and depth of flavours to shine. At this price point, you won't find a better deal elsewhere in the GTA for the amount of food and how well-cooked everything is. Consider me impressed!

Lovely little gem in the Grange food court. I had the Classic Jaffna Kothu Roti bowl with honey BBQ chicken. To my great surprise it reminded me of pad thai with the tangy sauce and the lime squeezed on top — like a really interesting pad thai with a lot going on. They didn’t skimp on the chicken, which is nice. Feeling a bit more adventurous, I asked for spicy chicken sauce to be added. They were so sweet about it when I asked. After that, the dish left quite a nice, lingering heat. We also had a mutton roll, which was absolutely delicious — the outside of the roll reminded me of a bhaji? There’s not much to be done about the ambience, being in the Grange, but I suppose there is a certain subterranean charm imparted here… I’m looking forward to trying more of the menu, and thank the team for their friendliness and kindness. It was a pleasure visiting and we’ll be back!

Great food and great value for your $ very friendly prompt service. I really like the effort they put in to the aesthetics of their storefront, from the menu, the advertising, the product packaging and even the uniforms of the staff. Very clean place as well, great contrast to the rest of the Grange. I got the cheese kothu roti with chicken, plenty of roti to my surprise. I could stretch it to 2 meals easily. I liked the flavour a lot, not overly spicy if you are sensitive to that. Just a suggestion for the cheese however, I would recommend a blend of cheddar and more stretchy mozzarella throughout the roti for a better experience with the melted cheese. Since the cheese seems to be a big selling point for the dish I feel like it should be a bigger experience when eating instead of just sprinkled on top and melted with the residual heat of the roti and chicken. I liked the addition of the lime...
