My reply to the owner's response: Hi, you've asked me to elaborate so here are a few more details. Firstly, nowhere in my review did I say I ordered the cheeseburger. That actually sounds a lot more satisfying than what I did get, which was the Smoke Show sandwich. What did I expect? Well, for $17+tax/tip, I expected a full-sized sandwich that would leave me feeling satisfied. I thought the sweet chilli aioli sounded delicious and I expected some kind of smokey flavour in the meat. What I got was something in between the size of a slider and a McDonald's cheeseburger with bland steak (it was quite tender though, so that was good) and SO much greasy cheese. I didn't taste the sweet chilli aioli at all, the flavour mostly came from the pickles. The sandwich was just really small and unsatisfying. All together I paid $27 for my tiny sandwich and a coffee. And a bit of baby spinach. I don't know how my review gave you the impression that I had visited so often pre-covid that I would remember over 3 years later that the breakfast sandwiches didn't come with sides? It just seems kind of bizarre that you expect me to remember that? I probably didn't even didn't order a breakfast sandwich last time. In any case, I just would have expected the breakfast sandwich to come with something, like even a couple of slices of fruit on the side. As I said, I know the menu indicates you don't get a side with a breakfast sandwich, but it just seems strange to me. I'm just very disappointed compared with my previous experiences at this cafe. My partner and I visited a couple of times and we got generous portions of fresh and tasty food, and in fact we still talk about going back each time we're in the east end. Yesterday I felt like the quality had gone way down. Thank you for responding so quickly, and I hope this helps.
My original review: Pre-covid I thought this place was a real hidden gem. They had generous portions of fresh, delicious food and good coffee. I was very impressed. I don't live in the area so I hadn't visited for a few years, but went back today and was very disappointed. My sandwich was tiny, like the brioche bun was smaller than a McDonald's cheeseburger. My "signature greens" was a pile of baby spinach with a couple of slices of cucumber and a grape tomato. And why don't the breakfast sandwiches come with any sides? I shared my spinach with my friend because he didn't get any. I understand it's not included on the menu, but it just seems weird to include a salad with some sandwiches and not others. It's nice and quiet inside, at least. And the person taking our orders was quite nice...

For starters your staff is extremely hostile, so no I donāt feel comfortable bringing this issue to them. How is that conversation suppose to go anyways? Why are you always rude ? Do you think thatās going to incite your staff to be more polite or make me feel like itās a safe/comfortable space to return to?
Secondly - maybe instead of criticizing me for leaving a review you address your miserable staff who doesnāt understand the meaning of good customer service - which by the looks of previous reviews is rude to other patrons as well. But somehow you figure addressing me is helpful for your business. No apology, no accountability whatsoever. Good look for you.
Last - if I have a good experience in an edtablishment I show my support by coming back. If I have a terrible experience Iāll take my time to leave a review - that is my prerogative. Too bad you donāt like it. I could care less despite the fact that you have tried to shame me for it.
Had you you actually addressed my review apologetically and tried to rectify the situation in a respectful manner I would have been glad to change or remove my review. Now itās clear the owners and staff are all the same. Way to treat a customer who has been giving you money for years, i will never step foot in your establishment. Good riddance!
Iām giving this place a 1 star simply because of the service. Been coming here for a while now and the older brunette lady with the glasses has been consistently rude and unfriendly. Always had an attitude and chooses when and who she wants to be polite to. Sad because otherwise the coffee and atmosphere is nice, donāt think Iāll be going back after my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place has really gone downhill from what it used to be. Itās no wonder theyāve had to reduce their hours. They got rid of their best cooks to the detriment of their menu. They also got rid of some of their most talented baristas, who not only served great coffee but had genuinely friendly and pleasant demeanours. Too many times we had to deal with the shopsā favoured barista, Eleni, and she only ever had rude and disrespectful comments to make towards us, thinking she could pass this off as āhumour.ā Itās too bad that on top of other poor business decisions, what would otherwise be a decent establishment insists on keeping a classless lipstick-wearing bulldog as its mascot. We stopped going to this place and...
