Located near Pape Ave. and Mortimer Ave., walking distance from Pape subway station, Number One Chinese restaurant is a great little local gem serving classic Chinese Cantonese dishes.
Featured in the images are: Pan fried Rice noodle with beef: a Cantonese classic rice noodle dish. Savory and often a favourite across the ages. Main flavour base is soya sauce and not spicy at all. Keep in mind, if you're looking for these on the menu, you'll find them in the 'Cantonese' section and not the noodle section. Solid 4/5 as some might find this dish a bit on the oily side (note: not a fault of Number One. Typically, making this rice noodles requires a certain level of oil to keep them from sticking in the wok).
Fried bean curd with beef: on the menu, this is made with fried bean curd but our family likes it with the regular white tofu. This is what I so appreciate about Number One. They were willing to change the dish to the white tofu. Either way, the dish tastes great, savory and easy to eat but the white tofu just makes it so much smoother and goes so well with steamed rice. 5/5
Pan fried noodle with chicken and mixed vegetable: this is also a classic Chinese dish, pan fried thin yellow noodles with chicken and mixed vegetable. I appreciate that the dish isn't too salty and is an overall crowd pleaser. Note: some restaurants make these yellow thin noodles crispy fried. Number One makes them pan fried. We like these noodles regardless so it's not a game changer for us. Flavour and taste this dish gets 4/5
What sets Number One apart is their friendly customer service. Happy to visit this...
Read moreMe and my partner ordered Chinese food last night from here and I reviewed them on Skip the dish but also wanted to leave a review under their restaurant. Just to let everybody know that I have been eating Canadian Chinese food for 46 years since I moved to this province and I mean I have eaten from a lot of places because I am very specific about curry chicken wings which is my absolute favorite and it's kind of hard to find that in Chinese restaurants, especially this day and age. You're finding you know just sliced chicken amongst millions of vegetables and very thin gravy but this restaurant did everything perfectly. The crispy ginger beef, which is a favorite of my partners. She was so happy. She said it was the best she ever had in her entire life as well. So we couldn't not review number one Chinese restaurant with a higher rating. Then we have given I give 100 stars out of 100 stars if they would allow me. I highly highly recommend number one Chinese food. If you haven't ordered from them you are missing out. If you see this review, please please please give them a try. It was phenomenal!!!!
Thank you for allowing us to have a super wonderful evening. It's just made our whole entire night and we went to bed happy and we can't wait to eat the leftovers...
Read moreI have gotten food delivered to my home from Number One for over ten years. Tonight I ordered the Szechuan Style Eggplant and the Singapore Style Pan Vermicelli. I asked that the Vermicelli have no meat, no egg and no seafood, which seemed to be no problem when I ordered on the telephone. However, It came with a lot of egg mixed into the dish. I also asked if the Eggplant dish was vegetarian and I was told that it was. I asked twice just to make sure that it was indeed vegetarian. However, It came laden with meat in its sauce. I cannot eat either of these dishes. I called the restaurant only to be told (twice) that I never said/ asked if the Eggplant dish was vegetarian. I was told that I only asked for "not meat" in the vermicelli dish.(But, they got that dish incorrect as it was laden with egg). I don't appreciate that the woman actually argued with me by saying "I never asked if the dish was vegetarian". I know for certain I asked her twice if it was. I will not order from Number one again and will take my...
