We sadly did not have a great experience. Here is what happened Called at 5pm to order ahead for dinner. Lady on the phone (not the owner) said 'we are busy - call back in 30 mins'. This seemed strange but we ignored it. Called back in half an hour and was on hold for 15 mins, after which the same lady said 'we are really busy - we can't keep order ready for at least an hour'. Here's the thing - we were calling ahead for a pick up for 7:30pm (2 hrs out) but were not even heard out. Maybe it's a language barrier or a training issue but to me, if a customer is calling to give you business, this seemed like actively turning them away. I would've much preferred being told straight up that the restaurant is over capacity and to try another night. At Pick up: got there at 7:27pm for a 7:30 pick up. Was in line at the counter. The owner ignored me and started to talking to someone called Ron who walked in after me and helped him. I ignored it. Another person walks in, and again they start helping him. At this point I had to interject and remind people of a line. No apology, no nothing. Food was given to me at 7:50pm after a 20 min wait. During this time there were 8 people in this small restaurant, half of which is taken up by empty tables. No way there was safe distance kept. Lastly, my order had a drink missing. I had to remind the lady about it. Bombay chicken tasted good. Everything else was average. Service and experience as listed above was below poor. Maybe I caught them on a bad day but will save my intention of supporting local for a business who...
Read moreI saw the restaurant on a tic tok post. since it’s not too far from me and I love Hakka food thought we’d check it out.
Since this was my sister and my first time there we asked the waitress what were the most popular dishes.
The chilli chicken was so flavourful, deep fried calamari was as light as air, came with a green sauce…so good. Plus we had the Hakka chow mein so tasty. The waitress even asked if it was hot enough as they can adjust a dish to our liking.
The food came hot and all at once, the waitresses were so friendly as was the owners wife.
We were surprised that more people weren’t eating there but noticed the amount of take out that was being picked up…the kitchen was going non stop with one order after another.
I usually judge a restaurant with amount of people who are in it.. I would have missed out on this hidden gem had I kept to my theory. Because the food was awesome and reasonably priced.
We will definitely be coming back. If you are looking for good Hakka food and your in the Albion neighborhood then check them out as your taste buds...
Read moreI'm not sure why this restaurant has such high reviews as I find the food to be mediocre and full of MSG. I've had Hakka at many places across the GTA, and this place wasn't anything special as advertised by Blog-TO. We got the chili chicken, masala chicken, Manchurian chicken fried rice, and Mapo Tofu. The Mapo Tofu looked more like vegetable and Tofu pieces, not spicy, and swimming in potato starch. Is this how Hakka people make Mapo Tofu? I assumed it would be more like the Chinese way... The chili and masala chicken were the same taste, just different colours, yellow and red. We got them because Blog-TO specifically mentioned them, but it was pretty disappointing. The Manchurian rice had no taste at all, but was red and a nice colour. We ate most of the food as we don't like to waste, but unfortunately, we won't be coming back. The portion sizes were great, which is why the review...
