Came in at 7:15pm on a Sunday (Dec 15th) and it was busy. Most tables were full; it's a very small restaurant. The waitress Minjo was overwhelmed but very sweet. She immediately let me know it will be a 40 min wait for the food and was apologetic. They had only one chef, back person and one waitress because I assume they didn't anticipate the Sunday dinner traffic? After 10 min of waiting, I did have to go up to the waitress by the sushi making station and just put my order in since I did not even receive a glass of water and be able to put in a drink order while I wait for her to take my food order. Because I was alone and sat at the back of the restaurant, I was a bit hidden so when another group of 4 ppl showed up right after me, she took their order first I believe because she forgot I was there for a second. When I did go up to order, Minjo was very apologetic again and throughout the service so I really can't be upset. I think it was genuinely good service overall other then the busy-ness and perhaps they weren't expecting it tonight. My suggestion for you customers is to pay attention to who's before and after you for service. My suggestion for the staff is to at least give water and take drink orders so eaters can relax while waiting to order mains - food psychology 101. The California roll $7 and the spicy Salmon roll $8 were delicious. Well made, quality fish and almost comparable to my favourite spicy Salmon restaurant in Scarborough. It's been hard to find good sushi places in downtown these last few years and quality and ingredients have suffered. Their Spicy Salmon didn't have too much tempura and infact it was placed on top so you can remove or adjust how much crunch to your salmon. It was exactly the taste and quality I was craving and was very satisfied. Also got their house special Ozeki hot Sake 180ml $12. The total bill came out to $27 before tax and tip. Would come back here and...
Read moreI visited here on a Friday with a date, and was very impressed with the atmosphere, service, and quality of food.
We arrived at 7:30 pm (having booked a reservation the day before) and the place was packed, with no spare seating available save for reserved spots. So be sure to reserve if you're coming over the end of the week/weekend!
The restaurant was well lit, though not bright, and so set a great mood for the evening. Though filled to capacity it was easy to speak across the table, and the small candle on our table was a nice touch.
The server was prompt and always around when we needed her but was never overbearing. We were largely left to ourselves save for when food, tea, or the bill were being delivered. Which was exactly as we wanted it. She was helpful whenever we asked her a question.
The quality of food was very good. We ordered the small sashimi boat (25 pieces) and a pair of rolls; one spicy, the other with large amounts of guacamole. Everything we had was very good and was ample for the two of us. Our experience would have been slightly improved if the server had actually told us what the different kinds of fish were included in the boat. While we could identify most of the fish there were two that, while good, weren't immediately identifiable to either of us.
On the whole I enjoyed my visit here and hope/expect to return again. It's a great, quiet, place to come on a Friday or Saturday night and I'd highly recommend you...
Read moreI've walked past this place many times and was looking forward to visiting here. I finally had a chance to take my family on a Saturday. They really dropped the ball here and apparently the kitchen staff is "new" and doesn't know the routine. It was fully staffed for a place that has no more than 20 seats yet it took them nearly 40 minutes to get us a tuna sashimi + 7 pieces of tempura (The sashimi was tiny), Unagi-don and a small piece of grilled salmon with a bowl of rice. The order only came after 35 minutes of waiting and asking what the hold up was. The waitstaff mostly hung out at the kitchen and hurried over to apologize now and then, so much so that the didn't even bother to fill the water glasses. The waitstaff couldn't even provide the owner's name or a means to contact him to lodge a complaint. They claimed there was a rush, but there was no less than 10 people in the restaurant, they even served guests who arrived after us their food. For such a small and quaint restaurant I recommend passing on this one until they get their act together. It was truly...
