Hot Spicy Spicy is a restaurant I dream about at night and daydream about during the day. The food is utterly sublime. Despite the fact that I live nowhere near the restaurant, I go as often as I possibly can. This is one of the absolute best meals available in Toronto of any cuisine. The current rating (as of March 2025) is criminal, and it would be an absolute shame if someone missed trying the food here because they were mislead.
Iāve visited a dozen times (most recently tonight) and usually order the food for pickup and take it home. That said, the restaurant is newly renovated and comfortable on the inside. The service is exceptional, and thereās a feeling of being really welcomed when you visit. They also sell their chili crisp to take home, and itās really great.
The star of the show - and a contender for what could be served at my last meal - is the āfamous spicy sausageā (lap cheong), an absurdly addictive traditional sausage that hits every possible right note. I could eat this every day for the rest of my life.
Every dish Iāve enjoyed has been hot, fresh, and extremely flavourful. The stir fried green beans and hot and sour shredded potato are both exemplary examples of how to cook these dishes. The signature āpopcorn chickenā is tongue numbing in the best possible way. The cumin lamb is deliciously cumin-forward. Even the Shanghai noodles, a simple and commonplace dish, bursts with flavour. I also have to shout out the signature pork buns, which are fresh and stuffed beautifully with juicy pork.
I love Hot Spicy Spicy dearly. I hope they continue to cook these incredible dishes for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy boyfriend and I love spicy food, so I searched for a good spot that serves authentic Szechuan cuisine and found Hot Spicy Spicy. Their menu is huge, and we asked for everything less spicy since Iām not quite ready for full Szechuan heat ā which ended up being the perfect amount of spice for me.
We shared a bunch of dishes including spicy beef with tripe, signature spicy cold chicken, dumplings in hot oil soup, shredded pork with garlic sauce on rice, stir-fried beef with onion (our only non-spicy dish), and the signature pork buns, which were big, fluffy, and quickly became my boyfriendās favorite. We finished with brown sugar sticky rice cake.
The owner was very friendly and even gave us complimentary wintermelon teas to help cool down from the spice, which was a really nice touch. Overall, great food, generous portions, and a welcoming atmosphere. Weāll definitely be back...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe dined here after craving for some Sichuan cuisine. What we got were spiced pot squid, chicken stir fried with dried chilli, beans stir fried with garlic, chicken grizzards and sweet & sour fish.
Since itās Sichuan cuisine, we were prepared for a spicy meal with various kind of pepper based dishes, which were indeed what we ate and were pleased with. We recommend pairing those spicy dishes with the sweet & sour fish and rice, so as to have a very balanced burst of flavours in your mouth.
Now the reason behind why only 3 stars despite an excellent meal, is that the bill of the dinner was not reflective of the portion size that we had received. Besides, our dishes were generally simple and nothing too sophisticated like some fresh Alaskan King Crabs and the ambience of this place does not seem to be reflective of the...
