I called at around 9:30pm on January 10th, 2025 to reserve a table for 1 person. I asked if they were busy and will be there in 20 mins, the person over the phone said no I can come right ahead. It was snowing outside and I felt like since I've been here many times, it doesn't hurt to support their business and have myself a good meal. I ordered the beijing duck as soon as I got seated so they can prepare the food ASAP and asked for the menu (for obvious reasons of ordering more food). I didn't even get a chance to look at the menu yet, and the Mandarin manager with glasses at the cashier walks towards me pressuring me to order food right away. I was a little bit dumbfunded by the situation, he then pressures me to order again by saying "This is our last call" I know the restaurant closes at 11pm. It was 9:55pm when he pressured me to order. I got more than enough time before they close, in the case of them having to close early due to the snow, he could of easily told me about it over the phone, or letting me know nicely once I'm there. The attittute I got from him was more like "Why are you here? I don't want you to eat at my restaurant". In the end I didn't order anything more at all and had a bad taste in my mouth with his service and left half way while getting the rest of the food for take out.
I would like to add that the older Cantonese gentleman with glasses serving me at the table was very pleasant. He was great through and thourgh, the 2 stars is for the Mandarin manager with glasses at...
Read moreWe went for dinner at 7pm on a weekday at J&Y Chinese Cuisine, the restaurant was about 40% full by 8pm. There were only 4 people serving the entire restaurant. After placing our Peking duck orders, the duck and the rest of the dishes arrived in a reasonable time, however when we tried to order more Peking duck wrappers, it took forever. It was hard to get the waitress to refill the tea, it was even hard to get them to bring the check. I hope the restaurant can hire more waitresses or let the guests place their orders on their cellphone. The food arrived hot and the quality are of OK quality. Presentation of the Peking duck skin and the lattice wrap were good. The restaurant should not be so stingy on the Peking duck wrappers, the cucumber and green onion slices, those items are not expensive! We had to wait more than 15 mins for our extra order of wrappers to arrive, just think about how frustrating it was and how much food enjoyment we lost because of the wait. The restaurant has a lot of large tables and can accommodate large groups. Parking at night time will not be a problem as the office complexes are closed, however I think parking will be a problem if you arrive before 5pm as there are a lot of doctors offices, medical labs and walk-in clinics. I do recommend the restaurant if you are not too picky with your food, and has time to put up with their slow service (not a criticism of their waitresses because they were actually quite polite, they just have too...
Read moreThird time coming here; the previous two trips were enjoyable but the last trip pretty much cemented that we won’t ever go back. Two people in our group are allergic to shellfish, and I told the waiter this at the outset. We chose what we thought were shellfish free options. The hot and sour soup came out with shrimp 🤦♂️
We asked to double check again and the other items weee fine. The Peking duck and the duck rice was enjoyable, but for some reason they didn’t have lettuce. Uuh wth? Not to say the duck rice wasn’t good though. Then I realized.. why is the duck rice the second dish? Isn’t usually the last dish? Then our dining experience just went downhill from there. We ordered another soup, but didn’t get bowls for the two shellfish allergic diners. Also had to ask again for new spoons. Flagging the waiter down in a near empty restaurant took more effort than it should. At one point the chef - who was on his meal break - flagged the waiter for us.
The server(s) wasn’t helpful with menu suggestions. The food sequencing was just weird (came out slowly and in no specific order). Like one dish would come out - we were hungry so we ate almost all of that and waited for the next dish. Food quality was ok - I get the impression that they prepped for their set menu and wasn’t ready for people ordering non set menu. Eg I wanted steamed fish but the server said it was for the set menus only and wouldn’t sell one to me just a la carte.
That being said, restaurant is...
