Katsu will forever be my favourite restaurant.
Basically I’ve been coming here for about 10 years now, and whether you are ordering a bento box, or fully satisfying yourself with all you can eat, every meal and every taste at this restaurant is amazing.
I want to start off by saying the owner is such a kind and wonderful person, and really cares about each customer. I see her working every time I come in, and she is very passionate about her restaurant!
Secondly, I wanted to say that I thought there were sushi chefs working in the kitchen. Incorrect, there are magicians working here, because how is the food seriously that delicious?
And now for the menu. Okay, so you can choose to do all you can eat for a set price of around $37 (dinner), and I must say with all the options on the menu this is a really good deal! Or, if you’re not as hungry there are plenty of other cheaper options that are fully satisfying. Before having all you can eat I used to order a bento box (Natsu combo $13.99) that had my choice of meat (teriyaki chicken) with rice, shrimp and veggie tempura, dumplings, soup and california sushi! Such a big box for such a good deal!
I will say that the all you can eat really opened up my eyes to what this restaurant is capable of, and I’ll go through my favourite dishes that I recommend from the AYCE menu:
Appetizers: Green salad Dumplings (a MUST have) Beef teriyaki Tempura Shrimp (veggie is also good) Tempura Squid (this one over Calamari) Takoyaki
Sushi: Danforth Roll (Deepfried, must try) Green Dragon Roll (very yum) Gold Dragon Roll (Salmon lovers must try this) Dynamite Roll California/Spicy California Roll Avocado Roll (small sushi with just avocado) Salmon Roll (small sushi with just salmon) Salmon & Avocado Hand Roll Salmon Sushi (Salmon Sashimi on a bed of rice)
Sashimi: I cannot express this enough: Katsu’s salmon sashimi is to die for! My favourite sashimi, the best I’ve ever had. I have cravings for this taste. The texture is smooth, melts in your mouth. Amazing. And if you don’t think you’re a sashimi person, just give 1 piece of salmon sashimi here a try. Dip it in some soy sauce and be changed forever.
Also the atmosphere and ambience in this restaurant is very warm, cozy and welcoming. I come here as often as I can with friends and my fiancé, and am happy when I get the opportunity to introduce new sushi lovers to Katsu.
Anyways, yeah that’s my review. Thank you for reading this far if you have. And thank you Katsu for years of delicious meals! This is forever my...
Read moreIt's unfortunately not that good. I came here because I was in the area and was craving AYCE sushi.
The selection was incredibly limited, only 5 sashimi and sushi selections, salmon, white fish, sea bream, Kani, and squid. Rolls also were a very limited selection, and at least for me they did not cut the cucumber into strips, it was just a solid 1/4 cucumber in each roll to bite into.
I've been to probably 15+ AYCE restaurants over the past 5 years and this just didn't really meet the mark :( Even Kyoto House in downtown is better, and they are half this price at lunch, with a similar selection.
If I were to provide some constructive feedback, it would be to lower the lunch price to
Read moreI been to this place many times for AYCE dinner. Yesterday myself and a party of 4 attended this establishment for Mother's Day lunch. We first decided on their AYCE lunch menu. When we start making our selections from the lunch menu we noticed there were hardly any choices(i.e. no sashimi, beef takaki, shrimp tempura etc.). The restaurant was not busy but it still took 15 minutes to flag down a waiter to change to the dinner menu. It took over half an hour and request to the waiter to get some water. He came back with 2 glasses of water. You would think an establishment that offers an AYCE menu would pour everyone at the table a glass of water as a rule. 3 more glasses of water needed to be requested so everyone at the table could have some. I get they are trying to sell $2 bottles water, but that's a poor economic strategy. No refill on water glasses was ever offered. They don't ask if you're good or enjoying the food at all. They plop the food down and are gone. I was happy with all my cooked food selections, but the sashimi texture was a little off and the beef tataki taste wasn't as good as every other time I've had it. When it came time to receive the bill it was noticed that they charge the same amount for a 5 year old (they asked age) as adults. That's a bit of a rip off. I still like the food but was very disappointed with...
