My recent experience at Kroran Uyghur Cuisine was an absolute disaster, thanks to their abysmal service. I cannot stress how much I regret wasting my time at this establishment. From the moment I walked in, I knew this was going to be a catastrophe.
I placed my order and was told my food is going to be ready in 15 mins and then commenced the agonizing wait, which extended for a painful hour. During this excruciating period, I witnessed a group of 10 people who arrived after me order and receive their food, and a take-out order that was placed right in front of me being served. It was as though the restaurant staff had some twisted sense of humor, prioritizing others but me. The utter lack of respect for my time and the mismanagement of orders was infuriating.
To make matters worse, when I asked to speak to the manager to address this blatant incompetence, he had the audacity to invite me into the kitchen. I kid you not, he asked me to discuss my concerns in an area that is both unprofessional and hazardous. The manager's attitude was a reflection of the entire establishment's disregard for basic customer service principles.
Instead of offering a sincere apology for the gross mishandling of my order, the manager decided to argue with me. He seemed to have no concern for the fact that I had already spent an hour waiting and that my food was still not ready. He kept repeating that he was "making it now" as if that somehow justified the absurd delay and the lack of customer care.
In my opinion, Kroran Uyghur Cuisine is run by a group of individuals who have no understanding of the fundamental principles of customer service or the basic mechanics of running a restaurant (should be inspected). Their lack of professionalism, disregard for customers, and utter incompetence left me feeling disrespected, frustrated, and genuinely disappointed. This was my first and has to be the last visit. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place at all costs. There are plenty of other establishments that value their customers and know how to provide...
Read moreI've heard many praises for Kroran Uyghur Cuisine and was thrilled to experience it firsthand. My visit during Ramadan resulted in a very quiet ambiance, reflecting not on the restaurant's quality but the fasting period observed by its primary clientele. Here’s what I ordered: Lamb Kawap (Kebab): This dish was a highlight, with four large, juicy grilled lamb skewers presented over pita bread, complemented by onion and green onion garnishes. Using a spoon, I transferred the meat to my plate, and enjoyed the meat that was tender and juicy. Smoky and earthy spices enhanced the lamb's natural flavours. Kidney Kawap: A skewer per order, it had a bold, gamey flavour, with a delightful blend of smoky and spicy tastes. Quruq Qorima: An intriguing dry stir-fry featuring short, chewy noodles coated with a savoury and slightly sour sauce, primarily tomato-based. The beef slices and julienned bell pepper added layers of texture and flavour. Dry peppers scared me at first, but the overall taste was surprisingly mild. The restaurant’s ambiance was understated but inviting, with tasteful decor including black tables, light brown walls, and captivating art pieces. A minor inconvenience was the single shared restroom for all genders, which could potentially lead to issues during busier times. Also, the server's availability was limited, understandable given that we were the only patrons. While the dishes were undoubtedly high quality, the total bill was higher than my expectations. A more affordable pricing would have improved my satisfaction with the meal. Overall, I had an authentic and enjoyable meal, marked by quality dishes. However, the cost considerations will influence my decision on planning a return visit for another indulgent...
Read moreServing up Uyghur cuisine (aka: XinJiang) which more closely resembles middle eastern food with Chinese flairs than Chinese outright, Kroran is situated in a small, sleepy strip mall along Birchmount Road. Having driven by it practically every day, I finally went in after seeing all the Google reviews. Please note that they are only open for dinner service (4pm to 10pm) so plan accordingly. The food has lamb / goat in almost all aspects respecting the roots of the culture from the Tarim Basin. We had the Kroran Longmen (long noodles) which were brought out separate from the sauce and mixed at the table. This allowed for a fresh noodle bite and hot sauce of peppers (both spicy and bell variety), cabbage and most importantly, lamb slices. The noodles are definitely homemade as some are VERY long. With a good tooth-feel and texture, the dish was very homestyle and delicious without being overly salted. We also order the lamb skewers and am happy to report they do not skimp on the piece sizes or quantity. Each skewer came with at least 5-6 chunks of lamb meat and the occasion fat piece. All of it was spiced masterfully (without going overboard and thus causing burns) and the fat, was delectable. Not the healthiest thing to chow down on but it was chosen with purpose. Unlike other places which give you sinew and rubber, all of the skewer items were of good quality and edible. Highly recommended albeit slightly on the pricier side. Expect to spend $20-25 per person after taxes and tip. Accepts cash and debit. Parking can be potentially tight as the strip isn't that big but it's not heavily...
