I have nothing really positive to say about this place and can only offer the staff my sympathies. I can only presume that the miserable-looking older woman who “works” there is an owner as every time I visit, she is continuously bellowing at the young people working behind the glass displays. It’s evident they do not respect her as they mostly ignore her. Who can blame them as she berates them in front of customers - “put it in gears ladies” while each of them is busy serving someone, “pick up the pace people, do I have to do everything myself?”. My personal favourite is when she mutters how tired she is under her breath, but loud enough to be heard from behind the plastic partition at cash. And this is Every. Single. Time. I’ve been there.

The bread is average and all tastes the same. The food at the hot table looks like it’s been under heat lamps for days, the breaded veal and chicken portions are pounded paper thin, cheese on each looks like dried rubber, the sausages and chicken wings wrinkled and dry. I bought pastries only once a long while ago. They were sold by weight - not by piece - and they tasted stale with congealed custard. More like day-olds, but too bad the price didn’t reflect that. And please don’t insult us by trying to pass off these items as imports from Italy.

I have stopped in on occasion over the last few years but vowed my most recent visit was my last. It has gotten progressively worse over time: seriously under-staffed, noticeably less and less products each time I visit, desperately in need of some type of facelift/upgrade (but most of us would settle for a thorough cleaning), and visibly pleasant owners/managers...

I have been coming here a few years and honestly, their whole operation has been so disorganized. They make you line up separately for deli, so as you wait to get meat/cheese you then have to line up AGAIN for bread (even as people who walk in after you who go just for bread you have to wait behind them). There’s not a good flow of foot traffic.

Also, I have arrived a few times at 8am as it is advertised as the start time and it didn’t open today until 815am. I spoke to owner and asked why that is and she said “it’s hard sometimes” so I suggested changing the start time then. When I spoke to the owners son on another occasion and said it wasn’t open at 8am as I returned in late afternoon and his response was “are you sure?” As business owners they should have more accountability and professionalism. I have witnessed the son be very friendly with customers which is more than I can say of the female owner who seems flustered, irritated and rude.

This may not seem like a big deal to some people, but particularly on hot and humid days people like to come early, I personally saw two seniors come and leave since they were not open on time.

I find the food overpriced for the quality. The one item I would say is really good are the potato wedges. Other than that, it’s overpriced and frankly not a pleasant experience. I would prefer to go to neighbouring Caldense Bakery or even in north Etobicoke Tre...

I am seriously sick and tired of constantly coming and walking to this plaza and being blocked by a car or truck on the sidewalk It’s a daily thing and funny enough almost always staff, not always but a lot of the time it is or Uber drivers or someone * just picking up a order*

I have asked for calls from the GM and never had a return call despite many messages left.

La rose needs to ensure there is no parking on the side walk or parked along side for 1) safety and it being a fire route 2) so people who have mobility devise can easily walk on side walk without being forced to walk along the road.

The one time I approached this issue it was a Monday and a truck was parked on the side walk with a very empty parking lot since your closed mondays, yet still had the audacity to use the excuses I work her as to why he was blocking the side walk.

Today they were on the side more so but still no parking, there was 4 empty spots directly in front.

I have also had issues with staff parking in the accessibility spots because of loading or something to do with the garden center.

Absolutely no respect for these action, your staff truly believes to me no one...

Call & make sure they're open before you visit (covid makes their closing time fluctuate). Super legit Italian family owned, local business / purveyor of bakery & savoury food. Great selection of traditional Italian cookies, plus western baked goods (croissants, fruit turnovers, brownies, butter tarts, donuts, etc. And they're also well known for a wide selection of deli meats, cheese & take-out chicken, pizza, lasagna & more!! PLUS they have their own on-site coffee bar. Super handy for a variety of good quality food. I've been coming here for eons... (Follow me on Instagram @aida.loves)

As a bakery, it still operates and the bread is ok. The pastries and sweets have nothing compared to other bakeries (chains) like the one around the corner. I’ve been coming to La Rose bakery for decades. However, the nostalgia is broken. It needs an update/cleaning or it needs someone new to bring fresh enthusiasm to serve the clients with a smile. It’s hard to let go and like other Etobicoke establishments, especially bakeries, La Rose can be GREAT and attract patrons again.
