Tucked away on Danforth East (near Main and Danforth, Toronto, ON), Len Duckworth's is a Toronto institution when it comes to serving quality Irish Fish and Chips. Staff are friendly, and many of the restaurant's patrons seem to be decent neighborhood folk.
The restaurant is kept clean and in good repair. It can easily seat a group of 30 without reservations, even during prime dining hours (7:00 pm).
I ordered the House Special (Halibut, small chips, coleslaw, and bread). The drink is included IN the price! Fish substitutions are offered (cod or sole). Their prices are reasonable.
Overall, I enjoyed the meal. The fish are not over-battered or greasy; the chips are home-made, and coleslaw is creamy and not too acidic. Sofa drinks are served per can (not fountain pop). The bread is not home-made, but is artisanal.
*Disabled + Plus-sized Guests
Please be aware that this location is wheelchair accessible, however, the bathrooms are accessible by stairs only. The restaurant is, however, excellent for the visually impaired, with black, non-slip grips on the bathroom steps, and wide aisles. For plus-sized guests, you will find this booth-only restaurant a bit of a squeeze (the tables are fastened to the...
Read moreI have heard about this place many times over the years, and finally had the pleasure of trying it myself. I have never been a big fan of Fish and Chips, but over the past year, I have been exposed to some truly excellent examples, and they have helped change my opinion a bit. And Len Duckworths is right up there at the top of that list. The fries were pretty nice, but the Halibut was clearly the star of the show. It had the perfect consistency, with just enough chew, while still being flaky. The batter held to the fish nicely, and you could easily cut big chunks off without it falling to pieces. Truly delicious, and maybe the best I have tried to date. My ONLY point of contention is that they don't make their own tartar sauce, something that, for such a legendary establishment should be mandatory, but fortunately, the little packets of tartar sauce from Ventura Foods they provided were tasty enough to not spoil the experience. Still, a nice homemade tartar would elevate this already amazing spot to somewhere truly deserving of it's legendary status. Either way, I look forward to the next time I get to have this exciting treat, as it's reputation is...
Read moreI've been wanting to go here for over a year as ive read some reviews and it was in the top 10 of placed to go for fish and chips, i finally managed to get there last week with friends and my sister who had flown over from England for a visit. Theres a slight odd odour to the place when you walk in and no its not the ' hot oil', and we couldn't put our finger on it. We all mainly ordered haddock/cod chips and poutine. The poutine was awful. The chips were anemic and not crispy, the gravy was decent and the right consistency but the curds where stone cold and just plonked on top, not nice at all. My fish, i felt, was not fresh as it was very watery and the batter just slipped off, it reminded me of a 'Janes' frozen fish that you buy at a grocery store. The coleslaw was ok and our young lady server was lovely. A couple of us used the washroom, which was absolutely disgusting, the smell was gut wrentching, so not sure if there has been an issue with the plumming or that its always like that?? Also theres only banquettes of 4 or 2 to sit at so if your a party of 5 or more then you have to sit seperately. I'm glad tried it, but wont...
