We arrived at the Cafe and the waitress (Maria) said to go grab a seat outside and she'll be there to take our order. 15 mins passed and there is still no sign of her. No water, no menu, no one to take our order. No problem, we went to the counter to place our order instead and my partner grabbed the water and cups. She came by a bit later to talk to the table next to us and did not acknowledge us at all and just went back inside, did not introduce herself or apologize for the lack of service. She later brought the food and utensils, food was great. She also did not come to check on us once (inside was less busy at this point).
We finished our food and wanted to get the bill. Same story, waited 15 mins but no one came, so my partner went inside and asked for a box and the bill and I went to the restroom. Obviously with the lack of service, he decided not to tip. He asked for a box for both the sandwich and the leftover sauce and hummus. She returned with a bag and asked if he wanted containers for the sauce, and he said yes. She said she'd be back with that and took all the plates away. She never came back out. I returned from the bathroom and saw that she still hasn't returned so I decided to go ask about it. She lied and claimed that my partner stacked all the plates so she assumed we didn't want the leftover hummus. I assume this is a retaliation for us not tipping. Food again was great, but such a shame that the service was terrible. We...
Read moreIf I could give more than 5 stars, I would! We've been huge fans of the main restaurant on Greenwood, so we were excited to try this cafe outpost that opened earlier this year. Located in the back of the Kotn store, they have a really cute back patio as well. The decor inside is cozy and well thought out.
This is a cafe, so most things are intended to be quick or grab-and-go. They have several sandwich and half pita options available that are made fresh every morning, including falafel, shakshuka, betengan (eggplant), and an Egyptian take on PB&J made with crushed nuts and fig jam. They also have their hummus and dips available in to-go containers, as well as jams and spice rubs.
We got the falafel and shakshuka pitas which were served with pickled vegetables and a garlic/hot sauce mix. Both were fresh tasting, delicious, and filling. He also had the "scotch egg" which he raves about. We both had the honey cardamom latte - mine with regular milk and his with oat milk. So dreamy - strong cardamom and honey flavours.
Monika was there and was so kind to walk us through the menu and generally just be a kind and generous soul 🥰 A fantastic visit on a rainy, gloomy...
Read moreI visited Maha’s Cafe today with my wife. They share a space with KOTN and it’s a very sleek and a great space.
The cafe is at the back of the store and we were greeted by the friendly staff and the great light that came through the glass of the back patio.
We asked about the food items and if they had any of the original Maha’s location dishes which they unfortunately didn’t, but the staff member kindly walked us through their assortment of items.
Including various sandwiches (eggplant one sounded and looked delicious!), treats, dips and salads. They had great looking drinks as well.
We weren’t that hungry at the time and decided on a salad and to our surprise she said she would give us a little something extra.
We didn’t know what the expect, but when she came over and handed us our takeout bag she said that she put in some fresh avocado dip that she just made herself and a freshly warmed pita!
Extremely kind of her.
The service and atmosphere were great.
Both the salad and avocado dip were fantastic.
Cannot recommend Maha’s Cafe enough and will definitely be...
