McNie's Fish and Chips is a true gem for anyone craving authentic British fish and chips outside of the UK. Having grown up on the coast of the UK myself, I can confidently say that McNie's brings an incredibly genuine taste of home right here in the GTA.
I recently had the pleasure of ordering their cod and haddock from their menu, and I was instantly transported back to seaside memories with every bite. The batter was a masterpiece—crispy, light, and expertly seasoned, it encased the fish perfectly without being greasy. Each piece of fish was tender and flaky, clearly fresh and of high quality.
What sets McNie's apart is their commitment to authenticity. From the first crunch of the batter to the delicate texture of the fish, every aspect of their fish and chips reflects a deep understanding of traditional British culinary craftsmanship. The portions were generous, ensuring a satisfying meal that leaves you wanting more.
Accompanying the fish were a side of golden, crispy chips—thick-cut and perfectly salted, just as they should be. The combination of the moist, flavorful fish with these hearty chips made for a classic pairing that's hard to beat.
Moreover, McNie's attention to detail extends beyond the food itself. Their packaging ensured that everything arrived hot and fresh, preserving the integrity of the meal even after delivery. The service was prompt and courteous, adding to the overall positive experience.
Whether you're a Brit missing the taste of home or someone eager to experience authentic fish and chips for the first time, McNie's Fish and Chips is a must-try. It's not just a meal; it's a nostalgic journey to the seaside, delivered right to your doorstep. I highly recommend McNie's for anyone looking to indulge in the best of British...
Read moreMcNie’s Fish and Chips has been a local staple for quite some time now, so I was eager to give it a try. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by one of the friendliest ladies I've ever encountered. Her delightful energy truly added to the overall experience and made me feel instantly welcomed.
Despite their bold claim of being the "king of halibut," I found the food did not quite live up to the hype. Opting for the halibut and chips, I was initially impressed by the generous portion of fries, although they were disappointingly small and inconsistent in size. Moreover, they lacked flavor and seemed stale and rubbery.
The halibut itself was a mixed bag. While it was adequately flaky, it unfortunately fell short in terms of moisture, leaving it rather dry. Additionally, the batter coating was thick and overly oily, detracting from the overall taste.
The only saving grace of the meal was the coleslaw, which offered a decent, albeit unremarkable, accompaniment to the main dish. Its flavor profile reminded me somewhat of KFC's coleslaw, except with carrots.
Taking into account the warm atmosphere and exceptional service provided by the staff, I would rate my experience at McNie’s Fish and Chips a 3 out of 5. However, I do believe there is room for improvement in terms of the food quality and...
Read moreSmall local fish and chip restaurant. Haven’t been in years but went for Friday lunch instead of our usual pizza. Restaurant already had 3 tables seated when we arrived and only 1 server. What we didn’t know was that kitchen was preparing a large takeout order so our food took 30 minutes to arrive making us late to return from lunch. The restaurant had 3 men behind the counter, one was cook not sure the other 2 but they never helped server with cash outs or taking care of the in house guests. We ordered 2 lunch specials. 1 pc of Cod with fries for $14.99 each and comes with a pop. My daughter is 9, would have appreciated a heads up that the portion is huge. We ended up sharing one plate and took the other home. There was soooo much batter, we were literally pulling it off and eating the fish. Took the other meal home but never ended up eating as we really didn’t like it that much. The server was friendly and did her best, would be nice is co-workers helped her especially since the large take out order came at same time. The halibut and fries is $23. I hope it’s not as battered as the cod for that price. Before we left 2 more tables arrived so it’s definitely a local go to for Seniors but don’t think we will be back just due to...
