This Father’s Day, we celebrated at State and Main in Etobicoke, a spot renowned for its relaxed atmosphere and dog-friendly patio. The welcoming staff found us a shaded table, and even our pup, Lucky, received a bowl of water.
Arriving just in time for happy hour after 2 PM, I started with a refreshing Raspberry Dragon Fruit No-jito. For appetizers, we enjoyed the fish tacos, which featured crispy white fish topped with creamy avocado, fresh slaw, and a vibrant pico de gallo, all drizzled with a tangy garlic aioli. The bang bang shrimp stole the show with its light, crispy tempura batter and a delightful combination of spicy sriracha aioli and sweet unagi sauce, making each bite a perfect balance of flavors and textures.
For the main course, I had the Bison Burger with truffle fries, which were perfectly seasoned and crispy. My wife chose the creamy Jalapeño Mac and Cheese, topped with toasted parmesan panko for an added crunch. My mom loved the fresh Cobb Salad, loaded with grilled chicken, crispy bacon, cheddar, and ripe avocado, while my dad enjoyed a hearty two-patty Main Burger.
We wrapped up the meal with two delightful desserts. The chocolate brownie with ice cream was a decadent treat; the brownie was rich and fudgy, and the ice cream added a lovely contrast with its cool creaminess. The Strawberry Champagne Cheesecake was equally indulgent, with a velvety, smooth texture and a hint of champagne flavor, topped with a sweet strawberry coulis and a drizzle of chocolate sauce. It was gluten-free, which was a thoughtful touch for those with dietary needs.
The inside of State and Main offers a spacious dining area with a bar for sports fans, but we loved the outdoor patio. Overall, our visit to State and Main was fantastic. The friendly service, great food, and dog-friendly environment made it a perfect choice for Father’s Day. We look forward to...
Read moreUpdate May 2025: Had calamari, chicken wings with honey garlic sauce and for drinks we had sunshine state and raspberry dragon fruit mojito. For dessert we had cinammon bun bread pudding. As always the food never disappoint, they are so delicious. And our server today, Taya, provided excellent customer service and good recommendation.
Have not been to this restaurant for a long time and decided to meet up with a friend for dinner. Our server, Stefania, is very nice and knowledgeable about the menu and give excellent suggestions. We tried the Bang Bang Shrimp, Calamari, French Fries with truffle oil and shaved parmesan cheese with dill dip and Butter Chicken. For drinks, we had White Wine, Rose Sangria and Sunshine State. We just love the Bang Bang Shrimp, it was so amazingly delicious, flavourful and finger-licking good. Shrimps are tempura battered and served with sriracha aoili and unagi sauce. The Butter Chicken served with naan and basmati rice was so tasteful. The Sunshine State drink with peach schnapps was so refreshing, just love it. The place has friendly staff, nice ,warm and welcoming from the host, Mary to our server, Stefania and the General Manager, Matt. They do provide excellent customer service. We enjoyed all the food and will surely go back to this place to try other items in the menu and would recommend this place.
Update: We went back to this place and tried the Sirloin Steak, Chicken Lettuce Wrap and the Grilled Steak Salad. All steaks are premium grade Certified Angus Beef. The food is always enjoyable and our server Rowan has excellent people skills and excellent customer service. She is so knowledgeable about the menu and gives good recommendation. My friend has shellfish allergies and am glad she told us that some of the fried dishes are cooked in the same oil where shrimps are also deep fried. We then had to...
Read moreWe had a restaurant gift card and State & Main was one of the places that it could be used at. We had never been and decided to try them out.
Service was great. Our waiter, we apologize as we cannot remember his name, was great and attentive. A bit of friendly small talk, asked questions, offered suggestions and here we go....
For starters, my "adult beverage" of choice is a Moscow Mule. Lately any I've had while out have been weak on ginger flavor (I swear some have been using Sprite). Well, not here at State & Main. It was fantastic! A real nice bite from the ginger. If I wasn't driving, I would have had 2 more. LOL! My wife really enjoyed her espresso martini.
We shared the bang bang shrimp as an appetizer. Flavorful with a bit of heat. A good sized dish for two.
My main was the French dip, aka beef dip. Delicious! Nice soft bread, tasty shaved beef and crispy fries with a dill dip (for the fries). If I had one complaint, needs more horseradish; not a hotter one but just more on the sandwich or some on the side 😋
My wife had the butter chicken and really enjoyed it. She made me try it because I hear "curry spice" and I'm like NOPE. It turns out that this one I like.
We ordered a desert to go because we were too full... which the manager brought out to us, and had a little chat, thanking us for choosing this restaurant knowing it was our first time. That was nice.
We plan on coming back. We decided to save our gift card for...
