I'm so saddened to have to leave this review. The waitress was truly very nice, and I wanna be able to support local businesses, but this was by far the worst sushi I have ever had in my entire life. The quality was so terrible. The rice was cold, hard, and very old. The fish quality was so low. None of the fish was fresh, and almost inedible. The tempura was super greasy and not light and airy like traditional tempura. And we had one too many "miscommunications". I asked about the miso eggplant dish, and I was told it was about the size of a small palm of the hand. So I ordered two. It ended up being enough for 12 people. Also it was not at all what is traditionally served. It was not grilled at all and it was just cooked (not grilled) soggy eggplant with smoked fish flakes on top and a runny sauce with zero taste of miso. If you've ever had the dish from Toshi Sushi in Vancouver, you'll know what I'm talking about. When we told them this, they said well you ordered two. And we kept mentioning how she misled us with the size, but alas, no apologies were given and there were no solutions offered. We ended up just leaving an entire plate full without taking it home because it was not good. I hate wasting food so so so much. Then someone at our table ordered one tuna avocado roll, and they ended up bringing him two rolls, and when he pointed hits out, they absolutely refused to take the blame and zero apologies and solutions again. It's honestly just confusing. And lastly, we ordered two beers that never came. I'm so so disheartened that such terrible food and service quality can exist and survive on such a highly coveted area like Ossington. Every square inch of that place is serving some of the best food in Canada, but alas, this spot is not it. My poor dad ended up treating everyone, but no one was happy and I couldn't even finish my food. I left feeling frustrated, taken advantage of, and honestly worried about the quality of the food I had consumed. None of us will ever be back here. It was very different when we...
Read moreThe worst sushi I’ve ever eaten. Please go somewhere else.
Initial impressions were the rolls were packed into a container that wasn’t large enough. Everything was stuck/mushed together so it was difficult to remove each piece without them sticking to each other and falling apart.
I ordered a gold dragon, green dragon and a hand roll. Every roll was wrapped so loosely that many of them fell apart as soon as I grabbed them with chopsticks or my fingers.
The tempura shrimp ended up being vastly different sizes between rolls. Some of the tails were well inside the end pieces while one was sticking out by probably 4 inches.
The gold dragon roll (salmon on top) wasn’t even fully covered with salmon. It looked so sad. The green dragon roll (avocado on top) lost its avocado topping every single time I grabbed a piece. It just fell off like it was barely laid on instead of wrapped and pressed like it should be.
The hand roll, I kid you not was literally a rice cylinder with not much filling and it wasn’t even wrapped in nori (seaweed). The nori was encased in plastic which I had to peel away in order to wrap it myself. What??? The whole thing felt like a child rolled a play-dough log and threw it in there.
Terrible sushi....
Read moreMy 1st time trying Monkey Sushi by ordering take out via UberEats and I am impressed with the quality of the food.
I ordered the Aburi torched press salmon sushi that came with "Buy 1 get 1 Free". Rice is nicely done, enough to hold the ingredients but not too soggy which was great.
I also ordered the bento box that comes with a spring roll, 2 gyoza, tempura shrimps & veggies, beef short ribs and steam rice. There are quite a number of beef short ribs and overall quality was reasonable. It came with dipping sauce, miso soup. I also chose a salmon roll and salmon sashimi. I luv the fact that they let you choose from a long variety of the list of the 2 different mix & match sushi/sashimi/handroll options. I appreciate that.
It was provided ginger, wasabi and complimentary small container of seaweed salad.
I would luv to visit and dine-in one time at...
