I had a very disappointing experience at My Roti Place / My Dosa Place at 901 King Street West on the night of April 22, 2025. I’m a regular customer at this location and have always enjoyed the food, but what happened last night was extremely disheartening.
I placed an order via Uber Eats while on my way home from work around midnight. I wasn’t feeling well and planned to eat my meal at the restaurant itself after picking it up. In addition to my online order, I also ordered two coffees and a plate of sambar vada in-store.
To my surprise, one of the staff members—specifically the waitress wearing glasses—rudely informed me that I was not allowed to eat the food I ordered through Uber Eats on the premises, but I could eat the items I ordered in-store. This policy made no sense to me. I had paid for both orders, so why was one acceptable and not the other? There is no logic or fairness in that distinction, especially considering I was a paying customer either way.
If the store was busy, I could have understood—but it was completely empty. There were no other customers at the time, so it wasn’t a matter of seating or space. What made the situation worse was the cold and unwelcoming manner in which it was handled. At a late hour, after a long day, and feeling unwell, I was simply looking for a quiet place to sit and eat.
But after that interaction, I didn’t feel comfortable staying any longer. I ended up packing everything—including the sambar vada I had just ordered in-store—and went home to eat. I didn’t even feel like sitting there anymore. I just drank the coffee quickly and left.
I’ve eaten here many times before and never had this issue. It’s unfortunate that a place I once enjoyed made me feel so unwelcome. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and reevaluates how they treat loyal customers—especially during late hours when people are just looking for a warm meal and a...
Read moreRoti Place offers an impressively flavorful dining experience that lives up to its strong 4.6-star rating. The standout dish is undoubtedly the Chicken Tikka Masala — tender, juicy chicken in a creamy, richly spiced sauce that strikes a perfect balance between tang and heat. The Dal Tadka is equally memorable, with its warm, comforting flavor and fragrant tempering of garlic and spices that lingers in the best way. Rounding off the meal is a sumptuous dessert included with the meal, which adds a sweet, satisfying finish and a nice value touch.
The atmosphere leans more energetic than relaxed — the music tends to be on the loud side, which could make conversation a bit challenging, especially during peak hours. Cleanliness is another area where the restaurant could improve; while not unkempt, the space doesn’t always feel as fresh as the food deserves.
Despite these minor flaws, the food clearly takes center stage at Roti Place. Each dish feels crafted with care, and the bold, authentic flavors shine through. If you’re coming primarily for the cuisine — which you should — this spot more than delivers. For lovers of Indian food, Roti Place is definitely worth a visit. The food...
Read moreI live nearby and have been a frequent customer at this location. I was accompanying my friend, who had placed an Uber Eats order while we were on our way back from work. We stopped by the restaurant to pick it up and sit down to eat. My friend also ordered additional items coffee and sambar vada in store. The restaurant was completely empty, with no other customers inside. Despite that, a staff member (the woman with glasses) told us that we cannot eat the food ordered through Uber Eats inside the restaurant, but could only eat the items ordered directly from the counter. Honestly, the tone and the way it was communicated came off as rude and unwelcoming. It made no sense both orders were paid for, and there were no space or seating issues. The whole situation left us feeling very uncomfortable. We ended up packing everything to go, including the sambar vada, and we had to leave and eat at home. As someone who lives close by and regularly chooses this spot, it was disappointing to be treated this way. Not the kind of experience you expect from a place you...
