It seems like there are some "Local Guides" on here leaving reviews that are very biased and based on a one time experience. Its unfortunate that these guides have the influence they have, anyways I digress.
I have been visiting Outpost Coffee Roasters for the better part of 2 years now. From the first visit to the latest its been an absolute pleasure. I am not a coffee Junky...instead I consider myself a coffee Lover down from the science of coffee to the enjoyment of the brewed cup. So lets Review, properly:
Appearance: Very easy layout for a coffee novice to understand what is going on. Someone who has been in coffee for a long time will appreciate the inhouse rustic coffee bar feel as well as the cleanliness. With the pandemic it has only improved.
Variance: they have a variety of drinks, cold and hot, plenty of snacks and everything in-between. This is a great place for in house baking and in house coffee roasting. My ONLY suggestion would be to include some of their for sale coffees on brew so people can have a little taste before they purchase a bag. I know they have it for some of their popular roasts but the unique single origin roasts should be included, maybe if not every day at least once a week, "Weekly Specialty Roast" on brew.
Staff: no complaints here, for the ones who have complained...we are all humans and we have days where our expressions wont be all sunshine and rainbows, get grip on reality people. My experience has been great as I like to ask questions. The barista on many occasions has been kind enough to take me through their brewing process and recommendations for home brewing methods. That to me is fantastic service.
Coffee: Now for what everyone really cares for. The Coffee itself is superb as its roasted fresh (left for a week before brewed), you get all the pleasant aromas associated with properly brewed coffee. The taste, I guess this is subjective but I drink my coffee Black and I can pick out the ripe acidic flavors of the light brews (peaches, Raspberry etc.) as well as the bold medium roast (hazelnut, dark chocolate, etc.). For those of you who like to grind your own coffee at home, picking up a bag of Outpost's freshly roasted coffee will be a treat and a great experience for all level of roasts.
Now my opinion has been shared by the several people who ive introduced to this lovely roastery, not single bad experience from any of them which speaks to the shop as a whole.
As a Realtor I get to travel the GTA enough to truly experience what this city has to offer and maybe I am an unofficial "Local Guide" HA. Take it from me, this place is one of the Gems we have and I will continue to recommend it to friends and...
Read moreI think it is vitally important to try to support local coffee Enterprises who are sourcing and roasting their own beans in house. Therefore, I have tried Outpost Coffee several times over the last few years and have really wanted to love it and give it a solid five star rating.
The problem is, I have found the service here quite indifferent, whether it is because of the busyness of the café or the personality of the baristas. . On the last occasion I visited I attempted to ask the barista a few questions about the beans they were using for their espresso base drinks and was told that in order to get that information I should simply visit their website. I did visit their website, but the information on the website, unless I was looking in the wrong place, only spoke about the products they had for sale and did not provide the kind of testing notes and bean sourcing information I would've expected from a local café that is roasting its own beans.
in addition, the roast here is a bit on the light side for my taste, but the Cortodo I had was flavourful and hot and well proportioned. There were a variety of items on sale in the store, which seemed to cater to a lot of different dietary needs and tastes and that is always a good thing.
Due to the location, there are certainly limits on how much can be done with the back patio however, very little has been done to try to soften the very alleyway feel of the space.
As I said, I would love to be able to highly recommend this local coffee endeavor, and, by the busyness of the space and the number of returning customers it would appear many people love it.
I will keep trying, and hopefully on a next visit this will be a five star local...
Read moreFriendly staff, good focusing atmosphere, and the best vegan donuts. The only con is that you have to get here early to get a seat because the place is so small, but isn't that kind of a pro too? Plus they have good internet, nice little outside seating in good weather, and they put so much tea in their tea bags that they can actually be used twice and still taste good!
2022 Update: they have limiting seating since COVID and don’t carry Bloomers donuts anymore, BUT their coffee is awesome and they still have several vegan baked goods including my new fave: pain au chocolat!
2024 Update: Indoor seating is back and there is a nice backyard patio. I still love their coffee and their vegan treats. They could have more in the way of vegan savory options. I love their espresso roasts and their half-caf beans. This is my favourite...
