I used to really enjoy this spot- albeit sparingly ever in the area back then, anytime I did stop in, it was an absolute treat. Sadly, after visiting for the first time in some years, I found it really fell off. The pho soup is fine enough, but simply lacking in depth of flavour. The spring rolls were fine, but didn't taste particularly fresh, even if just fried. The reason for just two stars is the curry we ordered, which was incredibly scant on chicken (maybe 1/2 of a single thigh in there), but also featuring barely-cooked/thawed frozen vegetables which were extremely tough to chew. Also just overall a minuscule portion for the money. The Afghan lady who served us was incredibly lovely however- very warm and attentive. Sad to have to downgrade my score from what it previously was, but won't be rushing back anytime soon after this last experience.
My original review from four years ago (five stars):
I was first shown Pho Saigon about six or seven years ago by a good friend who lives not far from it. This is not my home area, and is quite a trek from where I live, however, I make sure to go eat there each time I visit my friend. It's a fairly small restaurant, but is well maintained and clean all the time. The food here is extremely delicious, perhaps my favourite from this category in the entire city- it's a real hidden gem of a restaurant. The spring rolls here are the best I've had- of course their pho, wonton, and other dishes are all stellar as well, as is their incredible mango shake. I can't wait for...
Read morePho Saigon on Eglinton in Scarborough continues to deliver an authentic Vietnamese dining experience that keeps us coming back. The house beef noodle soup is always the highlight, with a broth that is rich, aromatic, and layered with the kind of depth that only comes from hours of careful simmering. The combination of tender slices of beef, beef balls, fresh herbs, and onions makes every spoonful deeply satisfying. It tastes just like pho in Vietnam, with that balance of comfort and freshness that makes the dish so iconic. The Vietnamese spring rolls are another favorite and they never disappoint. Perfectly crispy on the outside and flavorful on the inside, they are served with fresh lettuce and dipping sauce that bring out the authentic taste. The rolls are light yet indulgent, making them an excellent starter or companion to the pho. Eating them here feels like being in a local Vietnamese spot, where the food is made with care and tradition in mind. On this visit, I also had the pork chop, and although I missed taking a photo, it deserves a mention. The meat was well marinated, grilled with that distinct Vietnamese flavor, and served in a way that reminded me of family-style meals back home. The staff at Pho Saigon are always warm and attentive, making the experience even better. From the food to the atmosphere, everything feels genuine and welcoming. This is the kind of place that makes you feel at home, and without a doubt, we...
Read moreIt is a little hard to spot due to the fact that it is located in a very busy interestion and a very busy mall, but once you do find it, i highly suggest going in for a bowl of Pho. The servings are huge and a great value for the money. The service is fast and polite. Their Pho soup comes in three sizes starting at Medium and going to X-large..i ordered a medium and it was more than enough for me. The homemade Spring rolls are twice the size of any spring roll i have ever had previously as well, and very tasty, light and crispy on the outside and full of flavor inside. It comes with a little bowl of some sort sweet and spicy cause to dip it in. The moment we walked in and sat down, there was a waiter at our table giving us a complimentary pot of tea with cups...that was a nice surprise..i have no idea what kind of tea it was but it was very mild and warm..a great way to start off the meal imo. It is hard nowadays to find a good bowl of Pho but i am quite happy with what i ordered here (i got the Pho with Beef Brisket). They have a nice selection of different soups you can get along with a wide assortment of other Thai offerings. The Pho Soup Special supposedly has everything in it including brisket, pork, tripe etc. Since i am no fan of Tripe (stomach lining) i didn't order it, otherwise i would have. As i said, prices are great, $8 for a medium bowl and it is a BIG bowl. We WILL...
