Sanremo Bakery saved my family ! This is not exaggeration. Sanremo bakery saved my family and it is all because of their delicious apple fritter. My family and I have not been in particularly good standing lately. My wife and I live on the same street as Sanremo and were having our family over for tea. Anxiety filled the room as with each gathering the distance between us became more tense. It was not only effecting the overall family dynamic but my wife and I’s sex life, which no one wants to hear about but nonetheless is part of the story. So with all due respect, dear reader, GROW UP! I decided that we must make this gathering extra special to create a bond between us and the family. Sanremo bakery is down the street from us and we still were yet to try anything from there, although we only heard good things.
I entered the double wide building and was instantly impressed. “What a tightly run ship” I said to myself. Everything there flowed like water, from the deli, to the hot plate and of course to the famous bakery section of the great Sanremo bakery. I allowed my nose to gently teleport my body across the room, which was now shaking from the very prospect of delving into a Sanremo baked good. The attendants at the stand were so efficient in aiding the customers in front of me that I found myself in front of the line too soon. I was still yet to make a decision. To my aid came a lovely young woman who was quick to ask if I would like a recommendation, I was pleased with the incredible bout of customer service and wished her to proceed. She suggested the famous Sanremo donuts, and more specifically the Apple Fritter. I was intrigued, so I ordered a half dozen and rushed home in hopes that these magical fritters would cut some of the tensity that was to be felt at this mid afternoon gathering.
that is when the magic occurred….
As we all sat down for tea I had revealed my surprise to my wife and her family. None of them had a sweet tooth per se but they were all appreciative of the nice gesture albeit humouring me in my excitement. I had explained that it was a cornerstone donut of the Sanremo establishment and that the kind attendant had suggested it right away. That proclamation had built some intrigue and we all hunkered down to indulge in our first bite. What happened next was something out of a story book. I took my first bite of the great fritter and most certainly blacked out. I was taken to a state of everywhere and no where, where I was able to witness creation itself. I was brought back to my childhood, the warm summer sun of Napoli on my face as my mother called me for lunch. The happiest time of my life. I was brought back to the present, the taste of the fritter still fresh on my tongue. I have never tasted anything like it. The crunch of the donut has the mouth feel of a chip but sinks into a doughy melt in your mouth flavour explosion. The small apple bits make it feel like the interior of an ecosystem that has yet to experience the perils of climate change. I began to weep, I attempted to hide it so as to not show myself as a loon. However to my surprise my wife and my family were doing the very same thing. We were all crying in unison at the beauty of this simple yet unexplainable apple fritter. We all met in the middle of the room hugging, weeping and ultimately apologizing for all of our petty misdeeds that we each were guilty of in the past. All was well in the household for the first time in a long time. Sanremo apple fritters saved my family. Thank you Sanremo, we are forever in your sweetened...
Read moreMy mom has always loved this bakery but until recently I had never had the opportunity to try it.
I finally went in with my husband a few months ago and tried some of their food and everything was absolutely delicious. The staff seemed friendly and the entire bakery was bustling with energy and customers.
My husband loves their gelato, doughnuts, pizza and chicken parmesan and I adore the eggplant lasagna, pastas and pizza. I crave this so many times a week but refrain from over indulging.
Since we both loved this bakery so much when I decided to plan a surprise 30th birthday party for my husband, I knew I wanted to have Sanremo cater for me. The initial inquiry with Brianna was alright through email and she helped clarify a few things, although I was a bit disappointed as I couldn’t eat at my husband’s party since they only do the vegetarian options on certain days I was a bit bummed out but decided to order the food for all the guests and just got my food from somewhere else for the party.
Eliza was a gem when I called multiple times and helped me decide on amounts and made sure I had everything I needed for my event. I ordered around 45 chicken parmesans in red sauce which included buns, 3 full trays of penne rose, 2 full trays of cheese tortellini salad, 5 personal cheese pizzas, 20 garlic breads and a coffee thermos for rent which came with everything needed except non dairy milks!
When I arrived to pick up the food, Eliza ensured I had everything I needed and helped load up my vehicle.
The guests loved the food so much and everyone took some home as there was plenty of leftovers. The only thing I regret was ordering the garlic bread as it did go hard before guests had the opportunity to eat it but I should have foreseen that.
Overall, it was a seamless experience and I want to thank Eliza a million times over for all of her supper throughout my planning process leading up to me dropping the coffee urn off a...
Read moreI took my mom yesterday 30 November 2024 and the decorations were very nice but the washroom needed attention.
We bought a few things and saw this Red Velvet cake for $26 and I was going to buy it but my mom said NO because it seemed expensive for a simple cake so instead I bought two sliced Red Velvet cake pieces. She was right, this cake has no WOW factor. It is basically a sponge cake with cream cheese on the exterior and interior. My mom got a stomachache because she found the cream cheese a bit strong.
I should have bought a cake with fruits on the outside and inside because it is more moist and more flavorful.
I am very glad that I did not waste $26 on a the Red Velvet full cake because I don't know if Sanremo has a refund policy.
Then we bought 4 donuts but I wish they would put the names in front of display because my mom tried to pick donuts and had a hard time seeing and choosing because they were behind display on racks. She is a short person.
She experienced the same issue when choosing bread because the breads were not labeled on the racks so basically she was pointing to a direction and the employee had to guess which bread she wanted.
In the end there are a few things that could be easily fixed, like the washroom, labelling food and better access to see them if your a small person. Also a thank you for shopping when ordering something from different departments and smiles instead of simply pointing to the cash register to go pay.
Possibly lowering the prices a bit on few things so that all wallet sizes can afford to buy. For example the four donuts that we bought were $11.96 (2x lemon, 2x cinnamon cruiller), that is about $3 a donut. This is something that I won't get next time, there was no WOW factor to them.
Finally all I can say, it's a nice place located in quiet area that has lots of variety food, deli, bakery, ice cream, hot drinks and a take...
