Cute place with lots of different things to buy. However they are expensive as all heck. $11 for a multigrain sourdough. It was small heavy and dense. Taste fine. Reminds of Little Stream bakery if you’ve had them. I also had a spanakopita which was a nice crispy pastry shortening I am guessing and good filling. Not exactly Greek tasting but still tasty. It was $5 I think. Would I go back? Hmm well they carry lots of GF (correction ALL GF) so it would be worth it for anyone needed that. But for me, hmm likely not unless I’m in the area and really need bread Update: I don’t know how to reply to a response from the bakery. Apparently the bread I bought was GF. So $11 seems about right but I was NOT told it was gluten free and upon further investigation I realize everything is GF. Well I don’t need GF but yup GF does cost more. 3 stars for service as I feel it’s up to the staff to ensure customers know everything is GF. 4 stars for gluten free bakery Would I go back? Sure to buy for friends who are but not for me

Came here to try one of the only gluten free donuts offered in the city. I ordered a honey crueller (2/5) and beef patty (4/5). The crueller had ok flavour, but the inside was too moist/soggy- understandable, as regular cruellers are pretty soft on the inside to begin with. The beef patty was great- also one of the only GF ones I’ve found in Toronto. It had great crunchy texture on the outside, with the beef well spiced and seasoned. It was not as flaky as a traditional patty, but that’s expected for gluten free pastries. They both definitely hit the spot for those cravings, and I appreciated the huge variety of gluten free packaged goods/prepared food items available at the shop.

I have never seen a gluten free bakery/specialty store with such variety or quality. I was incredibly impressed by the many dinner/lunch options and absolutely blown away by their pastries. I can’t tell you the last time I had a true gluten free pastry that wasn’t a very basic cupcake or macaron. My husband, who is not gluten free, said he could not tell the difference between their pastry items and what he would get at a French patisserie. I can’t wait to go back and try more!

What a fabulous local, small-business! I have placed orders for a 9" gluten-free carrot cake for a special event as well as 6 gluten-free/dairy-free chocolate cupcakes. Not only were they the hit of the party, they were so incredibly tasting and delicious. The cream cheese icing on the carrot cake was delightful and the cake was moist (could have eaten the whole thing). The cupcakes were devoured by the GF guests at our event and they were so appreciative that we ordered them.

I have to say that beyond the cake and cupcakes, it truly is the owner, Josée and her daughter and the entire team I interacted with by email, by phone and in person which really impressed me. They are super friendly, very service-oriented. They truly do have a commitment to make sure their customers are happy. I had a request to change the writing on the icing on the cake and Josée made sure this was done for us. Lately I have felt that customer service & the customer experience in the Retail market & in general has been deteriorating tremendously, but nothing could be further from the truth for “The Bread Essentials”. Josée and her team truly do care about their customers, and it shows in every interaction. Totally impressed and will definitely continue to support this fabulous business.

Lastly, just have to say that the zuccini muffins (with chocolate chips) and the apple muffins are soooo good, I can't get my mouth to stop watering to get them again.

Support this local buiness, they are wonderful at sharing their knowlege and making sure their customers make informed decisions and they truly were absolutely wonderful to deal with. Great...

Our goto for all things bread related! My personal favourites - white sandwich, raisin & rye. The white has an outstanding texture with a subtle flavour that will allow your sandwich fixings to shine. The raisin is sweet with tons of raisins & touch of cinnamon - delicious. And I was so impressed with the rye as it's difficult to find excellent ryes even in gluten oriented products. Strong rye flavour that is delicious on its own toasted with butter or, if it's a sandwich, stick with corned beef, Montreal smoked meat and roast beef - outstanding. Lots and lots of other yummy and unique products. The corn dogs are unique - I've never see them offered anywhere else in the world and they are great. Excellent bakery products too - my faves include the fruit galettes, chocolate chip banana bread & the croissants. There is so much more though - you need to drop in &...
