Shirin Mahal Bakery & Sweets — Restaurant in Toronto

On Sunday the 15th of October 2017 at around 6pm, I visited this store to buy a cake. Saw two ladies running this shop who pointed us to these two cakes in display (a chocolate cake & a fruit cake). Besides cake, we also had to buy some other sweets too, hence had her arrange us two other boxes of sweets. Once done, I adviced her to pack me the fruit cake as we could then proceed for the total billing. At this point she paused a few seconds, made an eye contact with her manager and said "Ummm....Actually some customer called earlier to book that cake before I arrived". She then made a telephone call to that customer inquiring if they still interested in that fruit cake and that if they be coming to buy it at all. To this the customer on phone replied that they will and advised to not sell it to anyone. This young employee then concludes that she couldnt sell that cake as it has been booked over phone a short while just before my arrival. I then adviced her of her pathetic business approach where she first directed us to the cake in display and denied its sale because she had it reserved for another customer who made a phone call to book it. When asked why was the cake sitting in their display if pre-booked and why had she directed us to it, neither did she nor her manager had an answer. I too had called to inquire if they had any cakes available before driving some 30 odd minutes to their store after being confirmed its availability. The only thing I didn't do was "book it"as I wasn't made aware of their phone booking practice when I had called. I felt truly insulted and disgusted by there actions and the outrageous business model they practice. They need to learn some manners and be disciplined in treating customers visiting their store. If accepting phone orders, atleast have the decency to remove the booked item off the display shelf and not direct customers to it at all. I finally walked out of this store leaving behind the ton of other items I was willing to purchase. I am NEVER going back to this shop ever again nor do I recommend anyone to. Extremely high prices for below average quality of food. Save your money and go somewhere else.

At first, it seemed like a shady store to trust based on how neglected things were here and how old all the desserts looked. As soon as I saw the pastries area, i noticed that all the pastries looked very old and very small portions for such high prices. The cashier picked the smallest pieces and charged $10 for 3 small desserts. One had an after taste of Canola Oil for some reason and Chocolate one was very dry. Both of them tasted very very old and dried out. Eww.

Cream Roll was a joke. It was SO DRY and the cream was really less and tasted completely bland. We were very disappointed as we were looking forward to enjoying it. It almost felt like a bad ripoff to buy it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT AT ALL.

Needless to say that I won't ever be buying anything from here even during a zombie...

I purchased 12 chicken patties, 8 samosas and 2 lbs of sweets on the weekend. The sweets are inedible. Some are rock hard! it is unreal that they sold them. The chicken patties taste stale! I think the whole batch is old. such a disappointment. I've been to shirin mahal at all their other locations and they do not disappoint. I've been going to shirin mahal locations for years, however this location's food and service are garbage. Old food and bad service has happened to me a number of times at this location and I'm not from Toronto. If an infrequent visitor gets old food and bad service on majority of their visits, they must operate like this regularly. Avoid this location! because of this location I'm going to avoid all shirin mahal. I don't want to support them, them will make someone sick! they need to change the staff at...
