My first foray into Portuguese chicken was an amazing experience to say the least. St. Matthew's has some of the best chicken I've ever tasted. Most importantly, it passed the mother in law test with flying colours!!
Came in on a Sunday afternoon for take out. This place us mostly for take out but there a few tables for people to eat in. This place us super busy. There was a huge line spanning to the door as I walked in. Having said that, they're pretty fast at getting people in and out.
Being an Asian guy, when you walk in to St. Matthew's, chances are you will be the only Asian in the entire place. The guy who seemed to be in charge, was one of the friendliest I have ever dealt with. He made me feel totally comfortable for my entire visit.
On to the chicken. The chicken was some of the best chicken I've ever had. It was delicious and moist throughout. Even the breast meat was moist and juicy. We brought the chicken over to my mother in law's place for lunch. She's tough to impress when it comes to non-Asian food but she loved St. Matthew's!!
The only gripe you should find with this place is the parking. There's not too much parking on the street so it can be hard to find a place to park during peak hours. Rogers Road is just not a very driver-friendly street as well.

Someone from this place called me an hour after my order was placed to inform me that no courier was there, which what could I do about that? If this was an issue, both restaurant and the delivery, should give a notice about it BEFORE accepting and creating an order. Upset, I called Skip the Dishes and cancelled the order as obviously I wouldn't want cold food and to wait possibly wait another hour for someone to deliver it. Out of courtesy I called St Matthew's back and I was trying to explain how the phone call went but was instead interrupted, and the person on the other line said, "Yeah that's an issue you take up with them. You canceled the order? Great, now I have to throw out the food. Thanks." And he hung up. If he didn't so rudely interrupt and you know, hang up, I would've asked if there was an option to still hold onto the food and I would've gone over the restaurant to pick it up. Also, the way it was insinuated that it was my fault the food had to be thrown, is quite frankly, insulting, as it was Skip The Dishes' fault, and again if I wasn't hanged up on, I would've asked if I could have come by to pick up the order myself. Read moreI do not normally take the effort to put reviews, but yesterdays experience is making me do this. I use toogoodtogo app which helps save food which might go waste on a particular day. I have been using this app for many months and till now I haven't had an experience where I thought consuming the food would make me sick. The owner and the girl at the kitchen were first of all not friendly and welcoming. Maybe since me and my wife are Indians but that's okay. The 2 parcels that we got from them weighed so much and we were quite surprised by the size of it. Upon reaching home and opening it, we realized we have got so much random leftover food which is atleast more than a day old, if not more. The stench was very evident when we were riding back home in ttc and subway and we were confused why and how this smell was coming. It was a thoroughly humiliating experience and I immediately dumped the whole package in the garbage bin without second thought, when I tasted the sea food and it tasted like uncooked dead meat. Horrible is the way to keep it short and sweet. I wanted to upload photos of the parcel but I clicked it directly through toogoodtogo app so its not in my mobile.
