Sushi Ichiban Ellesmere — Restaurant in Toronto

DO NOT GO HERE!!! WARNING! Aug 22.2021 Me and my girlfriend came in for the first time and walked past a couple dining in and proceeded to the counter to order. They were nice and spoke to us properly up until we paid - AFTER that they were EXTREMELY RUDE AND ILL-MANNERED. We asked to dine in and they denied us and when I brought up the couple dining in they made up some excuse that they reserved when they didn't. I asked them outside while we were waiting for our food and they said they didn't have a reservation. They were a Chinese couple). When I tried to ask her about an item (shrimp tempera) because it was on the menu twice and wanted to know the difference she pretended to ignore me at first as she walked past me and when I asked again she spoke SOOO RUDLEY I WAS SHOCKED. and when I asked her politely again the workers in the back preparing the sushi got involved and I had to tell them that I was not talking to them and that I was not even finished talking and asking my question and they STILL KEPT TALKING OVER ME AND INTERUPPTING ME IN MY FIRST SENTENCE WHEN I WAS TALKING! HORRIBLE RESTAURANT AND SERVICE! They weren't even talking to me after we paid for our food. I am not even the type of person to write a review even if I don't like a certain place or food or whatever but this place is the reason I am writing my first food review in hopes of helping people and warning them about this place and the type of people inside it. Horrible energy, no manners, bad food, overpriced food and racism to top it all off and they would only allow their own people to dine in but nobody else. I am from Afghanistan and I have never encountered anybody so negative and such bad service and anybody to speak in such a manner...

Unfortunately, I had a disappointing takeout experience. I called around 1 PM to confirm that my order could be prepared for pickup at 7:30 PM, and the cashier assured me everything was good and took my number just in case there were any issues.

However, when I arrived around 7:25 PM, I was told by that cashier that my order wasn't ready yet, and that all orders were delayed. I was given the option to either wait an additional 30 minutes or cancel the order. I was frustrated because I had already made arrangements for dinner, and I was expecting a timely pickup as discussed earlier.

What made the situation more frustrating was that, despite having my contact number, I wasn’t informed about the delay beforehand. When I asked why I hadn’t been contacted, the response I received was to simply “cancel the order”, without any offer of compensation or an explanation. I ultimately decided to wait, but I felt that the lack of communication and the impersonal response could have been handled better. I understand that delays happen, but, I believe that better communication, like a call would have made the situation much more manageable and would have shown more consideration for...

Honestly, I have NO IDEA how anyone could give this place less than 5 stars. The only negative thing I can possibly see is that the portions do run on the smaller side, but that still doesn't give the excuse for a 4 star review. On the outside, the place seems a bit sketchy. But on the inside, it's like a pretty upscale place! The decor is fabulous for the atmosphere and it perfectly compliments the food. I've been there multiple times and I have yet to have an experience that is less than 5 stars. The service is great and the staff is extremely friendly. I read other reviews saying that the staff is rude, but those reviews are rather old and I guess they hired new staff because the staff I've had the pleasure of meeting are all wonderful people. I have gastrointestinal issues and it's hard to find a restaurant that agrees with me, but this place doesn't take issue with me at all! Honestly, I'd come here every single day if I could.
