I shopped here for the last time on February 7th, when I was accused of attempting to shoplift.

There was no “we’d feel more comfortable if you didn’t use your own bag while shopping”, no “you can see why we may be concerned”

Just “why do you have so many bags? What do you think you’re doing?” with an incredibly condescending tone.

I was calm, told the security guard that I did not intend to shoplift, and asked him if he would feel more comfortable if he kept the bag of items I had already selected at the cash. I had to talk him into taking the liquor and beer I had selected to the cash, while I gathered the remaining necessities for a get-together I was having. He continued to glare at me with attitude as I shopped for two more items and paid at the cash. I must specify, he did not "watch" me, which I would have been totally comfortable with. I recognize the importance of, and the right of every business to protect themselves against shoplifting, and considering I may, in their eyes, still be a risk, I would be comfortable being monitored. But no, the security guard scowled at me.

I identify the “white security guard” only because the other security guard conducted himself with grace.
I did everything someone wrongly accused of shoplifting should do. But his attitude and palpable condescension did NOT shift.

The entire time, he seemed to want to escalate the situation, to find an excuse, trick me into getting angry and doing something stupid. He repeatedly accused me of trying to shoplift.
These tactics are not only harmful to youth, but they do not benefit your store. Having an incident at your store is not in your best interest.


I certainly hope that racialized youth are not treated in the same way. Assuming guilt is NOT good conduct, and when law abiding racialized youth are treated as criminals, it is harmful to their self esteem, their self image, and encourages them to act out. “Well, if I’m being treated like a criminal, why not act like one?”

I paid for my items, but I will never give any money to this LCBO again, and neither...

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the LCBO store on Ellesmere Road, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. The location provided a superb shopping experience, and I couldn't be happier with the selection and service I received.

Their expertise and recommendations made my shopping experience even more enjoyable.

In conclusion, I highly recommend the LCBO on Ellesmere Road for its outstanding selection, impeccable customer service, and convenient online ordering system. Whether you're a casual drinker or a connoisseur, this store will cater to your needs and provide an enjoyable shopping experience. I was buying beer and wine for my father's memorial the next day, and asked the clerk for a special occasions permit. The funeral home had informed me that I needed to have one in order to serve alcohol at the memorial. The clerk told me that if I hadn't ordered one at least a week earlier, then it was unlikely I'd be able to get one for the next day.

The assistant manager was called out and the situation explained to him. He also told me that the likelihood of getting a permit for the next day was slim, but then went to ask the store manager what they could do. The store manager, offering his condolences and understanding the urgency of my situation, told me that he would do everything he could to make sure I walked out with the permit. I filled in some paperwork, they checked it, sent it in, and I got my permit.

I will recommend this LCBO to anyone who asks. They went out of their way to satisfy me, and my family is forever...
