Shahi Rasoi — Restaurant in Toronto

Located inside of Parkway Mall's food court, I had lunch at the food court's small dining area and tried this indian cuisine for the first time. I had Chana Puri (8) and Mango Lassi (3) totaling to about 12 dollars with tax. I was quite impressed, the Chana (which is the chick pea in sauce) was very nicely flavoured with good but not overbearing spices. The potato and onion complimented it well, with the star of the show being the fresh made Puri. This doughy, bread like dish was piping hot, tender and absolutely delicious. Altogether it made for an excellent tasting dish. The Mango lassi was smooth, fresh, and tasty, though for 3 dollars the size was smaller than I would have liked, however, I've not had Lassi before so that may just be consistent across similar restaurants. I was so disappointed. The yummy smell in the food court attracted me to this place this morning. Picked up a quick snack and bought 4 samosas (2 chicken & 2 veg). I also ordered 2 rotis which was made on the spot. The problem arose when the roti was brought out from the kitchen and the person set it down to wrap it, a cockroach appeared seemingly from the foil wrap. I wasn't sure I saw what I saw and said "what is that?". As she continued to wrap it we both saw it again and she continued on as if nothing...not even trying to kill it or offer an apology. I was so shocked that I didn't make a deal about it. I took it and then threw it out. Very gross.

Gave 2 stars since the person serving was nice and my daughter said the samosas were good. Unfortunately I will not be stopping...

This is my GO-TO TAKEOUT Indian food place. It's simple to understand what your getting and the food is better then ALL the other similar priced places in the area. They do special orders, you can mix and match what you want and the lady that serves you is polite helpful and fast. I cannot say enough good thing. Only issue is sometimes they get busy so they could use another hand during peak periods. I just finished work and I'm salivating at the thought of ordering from one of the many apps they can be found on. Very good food and the cost/quantity and value of all items is the best and a gem in the area of Victoria Park and Ellesmere....
