Other long time Toronto residents who have reviewed this café, have remarked on the incredible irony of this neighborhood producing some of the best coffee and food in Toronto. This section of Sterling was once an absolute no go zone for anyone except those working in the industrial sector located here. Now, however, some of the most interesting, inventive and original food and coffee experiences are located within one square kilometre of this location.
Upon entering this location, you are immediately transported to somewhere else both by the amazing smells emanating from the kitchen and the gorgeous array of bake goods and sandwiches on display at the entrance. Add to this the bewildering assortment of Italian grocery staples and there's really nothing else you can ask for.
On our last visit, it was a rainy morning and therefore the patio was not open. The staff very graciously allowed us to sit in the restaurant section of the café, which doesn't officially open till 1130. Our barista's were incredibly welcoming and knowledgable and even provided table service for us despite the fact we were quite a distance from the espresso bar. They also put up with my challenging attempts to order my coffee and pastry in Italian with extreme tolerance!!
On this occasion, we had a Cortado and an Americano, both of which were perfectly executed. I had a traditional biscotti, which was the exact right accompaniment to our coffee.
On other occasions, I have sampled a few of the biscotti and cookies on offer here and have found all of them to be incredibly fresh and, to my limited knowledge, extremely authentic to a typical Italian presentation.
It would be difficult to ever get bored of coming to this location and experience. An absolute must try if you're a coffee or Italian food lover visiting the West...
Read moreI personally didn’t eat here, I am an employee of one of the many different vendors that spaccio’s neighbour, Henderson brewing, had for their most recent ‘Picklefest’. I did however spend about 10-15 minutes at spaccio inquiring whether I could buy a sleeve of to-go containers and lids (which they got for me! Thank you very much guys ☝🏽☝🏽☝🏽). During my time waiting for the containers there was a disgruntled patron of theirs, who due to the picklefest event, decided to park on the street, and ended up receiving a parking ticket. This woman came back to the host stand to understandably share her frustration, but was very apprehensive to the solutions that I or the very understanding and empathetic FOH server or manager was offering. I personally had to leave and get back to work so I didn’t get to see if the situation was resolved. But I did just want to take a second to commend the foh staff at spaccio west, 1) for helping me and 2) for dealing with quote unquote “Karen’s” in an extremely professional and respectful manner, as a BOH worker I can say they’re better humans than I. Keep up the good work everyone, and to the GM or Director of operations, speaking on the nice Asian staff member that dealt with the disgruntled patron, I’d give her some sort of recognition or something, she dealt with that situation EXTREMELY well. My advice is if the business ever finds itself in this predicament in the future, to let people know to just fight the ticket with the city, or tell the person to contact customer services at Henderson when their events cause trouble for...
Read moreGrowing up in the WEST END in the 50's & 60's this Roncy-College-Dundas triangle was the "other side of the tracks" (almost literally) with a concentration of factories and early 20th Century homes. Through the last fifty years, like most of Toronto's older neighbourhoods, the area has gentrified and exploded with a massive number of cultural and culinary venues making this one of Toronto's GO-TO districts. We happened upon TERRONI while looking for a brewpub with food (Henderson's will have to be another time) and just walked up the stairs into this visually stunning array of breads, wines and condiments which was such a reward. Terroni specializes totally in products from over 100 wineries and (I believe) smaller producers from Italy. As advertised, this is undoubtedly, an Italian restaurant. An exceptionally huge space filled with take-out counters, bar service and beautifully designed, welcoming dining areas.....and the gleaming bakery on view at the back. Servers were friendly and efficient and the kitchen put out a tasty (albeit a bit pricy...but we're in the 416 aren't we???) oven-fired CAPRICCIOSA pizza. Sadly we had to get out onto the highway ahead of a storm so couldn't stay long to savour our food in these lovely surroundings. Quite the efficient take-away box!!!! Thanks to all at TERRONI. Hopefully we'll be back in calmer weather and join the...
