The restaurant is situated on Keele St right before Keele and Dundas St W (Junction). The restaurant itself is a small restaurant with 4-5 high stool seats and 2 benches. Service: really friendly service, helpful with what to order and what toppings are on what sandwich Lineup: There was a line-up when I went with about three people ahead of me, I got there 2 minutes before 11:00AM. The Food: I ordered a Philly Cheese Steak - Ryan's way, and a spicy stuffed jamaican patty on the loose side. The Philly cheese steak was good I wish there was a bit more hot peppers and a little less cheese whiz but other than that it was great. The stuffed jamaican patty was not that great especially after having the philly cheese steak. You really can't taste any of the beef, so most of what you taste is cheese and tomato. Cost: I paid $28 for the philly cheese steak sandwich and the stuffed spicy jamaican patty. The stuffed patty was $6.80 + tax which now seems very expensive for what you get. Overall: The sandwich was great and patty not so much. If you are coming here for lunch it could be a long wait. It took me around 40ish minutes to order and receive my food. So being aware of time and ordering ahead is needed if you have limited time for lunch.

Never been here before, but I was craving meat :) Called ahead to place a pick up order - “no problem, how long will you be?” Food was ready on time, and the entire staff (all 3 that were there at the time) were friendly and welcoming. Got jerk chicken (extra hot) and brisket. The food was insanely good. They gave me mustard for the beef, absolutely slaps!! But the jerk chicken……WOW. Hot enough to make you feel it, but not enough to ruin the flavour. Just enough sweetness to cut through the heat. I highly recommend this place. In fact, I literally called them to thank them after I finished my food. %100 legit. This place is awesome. Can’t wait to go back! So I don’t know how to add another review, but this place is a super special treat!! Food’s always on point, service is always friendly!!!! If you haven’t been here, you must go. Get the smoked meat (ask for the mustard), But mos def get the jerk chicken. If you like spice, ask for as hot as it gets. I guarantee you will not be disappointed!! Super flavourful and just enough heat to make me sweat :) Most importantly, they’re awesome people making awesome food. Don’t miss out on this hidden gem!!!!!

Ryan and Kimberly got their start as a booth at a The Junction Farmers Market in 2012. Then in 2015, they opened a storefront on Dundas Street. After spending years in the hospitality industry. Kimberly and Ryan were eager and excited to start something up of their own. When The Pig Came Home is kinda like an old-school deli. Their signature items are the Smoked Meat Sandwich and the Peameal Sandwich, the latter of which goes all the way back to their farmers market days. “When we were at the Junction Farmers Market, we started doing barbecue,” Kimberly recalls. “But no one wants to eat barbecue at eight in the morning. So we started making peameal.” They use locally grown pork from Prince Edward County and their sandwiches are all of an otherworldly beauty and deliciousness. The smoked meat didn’t come until after their storefront opened. They added Jamaican patties then too, based on Kimberly’s mom’s recipe, who hails from Spanish Town, Jamaica. The patties are the best in the city - yes, I said it, I think they’re the best in the city. I welcome challengers, but you’re likely to agree after you’ve had these.

Kimberly and Ryan are residents of The Junction themselves. They fell in love with the charm of the neighbourhood as they grew their business and family here. “Our customers are more than just our customers,” says Kimberly. “They’ve watched our children grow up and we’ve watched their children grow up.”

It’s a super popular place, but with very good reason. You definitely want to sneak When the Pig Came Home to the top of your...
