Absolutely horrific from start to end. I think it's the manager or owner whenever I have first stepped in & asked to be seated-he always legitimately responds in an odd, joke or what he was attempting to do went too far. I understand that perhaps he was trying to be comical or make a joke. However, there are the correct & appropriate ways to successful do that while still continuing to be professional rather than make the customer/individual feel awkward & greeting the customer negatively. It makes no sense at all nor is there any reasons for whatever this was to be done. Here's an example of this-Recently, I went inside & waited to be seated. I responded to his question if I would like a seat & he actually says no while being serious & genuine in his reply. He then says yes & to top off the start of the infinitely terrible experience-the wait was longer than usual for an ordinary breakfast place. I ordered 2 eggs with extra toast to replace the fries that come standard with the meal & a coffee. The eggs were truthfully the smallest eggs I've ever seen & the toast tasted old, stale & frozen. Additionally, the eggs were extremely greasy: inedible. Extremely low quality of oil-horrible-only reason why I tried to continue eating it was because it was exceedingly expensive for the quality of each food item, portion & how it was cooked. The coffee was nothing more than minimally alright as any other basic coffee. As for the restaurant itself: it always looks unkept & dated-the window sills, tables, chairs aren't the most clean & the general feel of the restaurant is quite old & not even average as it looks like it definitely needs an upgrade. While I was trying to eat my awful meal: there was an extremely dreadful smell of rotten bacon or pork of some sort being cooked from the kitchen. I understand that sometimes bacon or pork has a certain or stronger smell which was certainly not the normal or hygienic. It was akin to the pork/bacon being rotten. The smell was so strong that I felt sick, it went into my mouth I tasted it & I actually had to leave without finishing the horrendous toast. Moreover, the location of the kitchen & grill in this restaurant are also very odd & misplaced-it is located right where patrons are eating & there doesn't seem to be enough of a separation-it is very odd & not enjoyable. While paying I had a gift card-I was told that the manager needed to do the gift card transaction. The manager was the same unprofessional, odd joker who always has greeted me weirdly & distasteful upon entering the restaurant. However, I held my breath & simply hoped for the best outcome at this point as I just wanted to pay & strongly regret ever trying this restaurant again. He spent a few minutes pushing buttons then gave me an almost weird look or stare & said something along the lines of "This gift card won't go through. Listen, it's Easter & I'll let you use it to pay your meal. Are you okay with that?" Truthfully, it's not the first time that their own, specific branded gift cards were not accepted as payment. The last time I brought the same one & the same manager told me that their system was down & I had to pay using another method other than the gift card. Both occurences of not accepting their own gift card is extremely weird & unprofessional. I will never ever ever ever step foot into this establishment again & I highly recommend that nobody else does either as there's nothing great or even minimally average about it-it is extremely atrocious. The only aspect that is correct about this restaurant is its name of "Boom Breakfast & Co." because it absolutely needs to be closed & completely redone & replaced by a construction crane which will make the appropriate sound of "boom." Additionally, in this renovation: the manager definitely needs to be replaced & not be in the service, food, customer, hospitality or any industry adhering to people, customer service or people skills. #boom #overrated #boombye #noway #steerclear #waste #odd #unprofessional...
Read moreSo I used to love this place. I found the food went downhill and I stopped eating here for years. I recently (over covid) gave it another shot. Food was pretty good so I started ordering again. Problem is that it’s never consistent and with a successful restaurant consistency is key. In my notes I’ll ask my meat to be cooked well done and sometimes it is and sometimes it’s not. Just the other day there was no fruit garnish which online it says it comes with it and the picture has fruit in it but when I called I was put on hold and told that’s outdated and they don’t do fruit garnish anymore. Ummmmmm, what? The previous order…less than 2 weeks ago had fruit. If food comes without fruit then update your online and ubereats menu. Regardless, I told them put fruit in a container for both orders and I’m coming to pick it up! Usually has cantaloupe, honeydew and an orange slice i believe. I got a couple orange slices and pineapple??? Another time my bacon was so undercooked I had to call in and go pick up a new order even though I paid for ubereats Delivery. The owner was there and was very kind and apologetic (I’ve always liked her) they made a fresh order, got me my money back and gave me some delicious French toast on the house. I did appreciate that. That’s good business however, I’d rather my food be executed correctly first round. If they could just make sure they are as consistent with their takeout orders as they are in house…they would get the support from the neighborhood again. If you are reading this and work in a kitchen pls remember people that order takeout are spending the same amount of money as in house diners. Please cook with the same...
Read moreToday we paused at Boom on St. Clair for a late breakfast. We were warmly greeted by our host and server, Isabel. As this was ‘brunch’ for us we chose 2 hearty options: the Power Breakfast (with peameal, poached eggs, roasted tomatoes and rye toast) and the Oh Canada Eggs Benedict. Both meals included fresh fruit garnish: an orange twist and a pineapple wedge. Both meals were attractively plated. (Something that particularly appeals to my CIA trained foodie husband…”we consume first with our eyes!”) The food arrived hot, and Isabel made sure to check back with us - first if all was right with our meal - and later on for coffee refills.
We often choose to return here when in Toronto to see our kids and grandkids, and here are our reasons why: consistency - we can count on the food being exactly the same, every time, as described on the menu; we can count on being seated quickly, even when they’re busy; we feel they value our business - they remember us, and call us by name, and seem genuinely happy we came; options - the menu appeals to all of us, and there’s something for everyone, even the most finicky eater: grandkids, adults, and seniors; and finally, with all respect to gender and ageism, they employ women of a certain vintage, who know their stuff, understand children and the challenges of dining out, and how to problem-solve and think on their feet - and whose years in age also bring wisdom to their job performance!
Thank you Boom for our full bellies and Isabel’s capable and caring service. We’ll see you...
