HEALTH-CONSCIOUS DINING
Mehtab East Indian Cuisine utilizes ORGANIC spices, food WITHOUT MSG, NO artificial flavors, NO preservatives, and NO trans fats. Their focus on health conscious and high quality ingredients provides a great option for those with dietary concerns. The staff is attentive to any food allergies, and prices are very reasonable.
MENU SELECTION
The menu offers a wide selection of appetizers, clay oven specialties, vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, various rice options, and a variety of naan breads. We opted for three takeout items:
Baigan Bharta: Roasted eggplant puree with green peas, tomatoes, ginger, and coriander.
Mix Masala Vegetables: Seasonal vegetables cooked in exotic spices and topped with fresh coriander.
Naan Bread: Warm, soft naan that perfectly complemented our dishes.
While the food was spicier than we're accustomed to, it was flavorful, with generous portions. (Photos of our visit and food selections are included in this review.)
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Mehtab East Indian Cuisine is not just a restaurant but a community contributor. Jag hosted a fundraiser to support Shelly Adams in her fight against MS, a cause featured in the recent September 2024 issue of the Cochrane Eagle. Read moreFirst impressions not great. Our servers were not friendly and not helpful at all. We were given dirty cutlery and dishes to start. The appetizers were OK but also came out in a dirty plate. The food overall was very bland and I’d give them only one star for that. I asked for saffron rice and I got orange rice. I’m middle eastern and I know what saffron rice looks and tastes like and what I got was not saffron rice…. It was orange rice probably using food colouring. I also know what rice cooked with tomato paste looks and taste like and that wasn’t that either. My other half asked for coconut rice and what he got was the same orange rice mixed with white rice and they had used sweetened shredded coconut on top of the rice. It just did not taste right what so ever.
I’m sorry but this is not even worth one star and the prices I f what came out was absolutely not worth it. McDonalds would have been better in my opinion.
You just can’t beat “Gate of India”. Now that’s an absolutely amazing Indian restaurant. The food speaks for itself not to mention the owners and all their staff are just amazing.
If we were close to Calgary we definitely would have gone to Gate of India instead but unfortunately for us we happened to be in Cochran and we were told this was the best and I’m sorry to say that it definitely is not and it’s very disappointing.
My advice please serve with clean plates and don’t falls adverse that you have saffron rice when it’s bit saffron that you serve. Also if you will use curtains in a restaurant I’d make an effort if actually washing them or keeping them...
