A Fast-Food Experience That Feels Five-Star! My group of 20 recently descended upon Thai Express in Hinton, Alberta, and we were absolutely blown away. When you think of a fast-food chain, you don't typically expect the kind of personalized service we received, but this location is in a league of its own. From the moment we walked in, the owner took charge, calmly and efficiently taking all of our individual orders. The ambience of the restaurant is clean and modern, a pleasant and welcoming space. The food itself was fantastic – fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were craving. Everyone in our large group loved their meal, and there were zero complaints. However, the real star of the show was the service. Even with a crowd of 20 people and a variety of custom orders and modifications, our food was prepared and served with incredible speed and to perfection. It was a masterclass in efficiency. A few people later decided they wanted something else, and those orders were handled with the same impressive speed. What truly set this experience apart was the level of personalized care. The owner went above and beyond to ensure every single person in our group was happy, which is something you simply don't expect from a fast-food establishment. I was passing through Hinton on a road trip and decided to stop by this restaurant for dinner after reading several glowing 5-star reviews online. As someone who enjoys Thai cuisine and has tried it from many authentic spots in the U.S., I was genuinely looking forward to this meal. Unfortunately, my experience couldn’t have been further from what those rave reviews promised.

To start with, the fried rice was overwhelmingly soaked in soy sauce to the point where the rice lost all its texture — it was mushy and excessively salty, more like a soy soup than a stir-fried dish. The noodles we ordered were completely bland — no spice, no seasoning, no flavor. It tasted like they had been boiled and served without any thought to balance, depth, or the vibrant flavors typically associated with Thai cooking.

The pad Thai was perhaps the most disappointing. I specifically asked for it without tamarind, and not only was my request ignored, but the dish arrived with a strong tamarind presence that overpowered everything else. On top of that, the plate was overloaded with bean sprouts and noodles, lacking protein, vegetables, or any sort of complexity. It felt more like filler food than a proper entrée.

As a visitor from the States who enjoys exploring local food spots, I can confidently say this did not resemble Thai cuisine in taste, preparation, or presentation. Came here with a large group while staying in town. Line was not super long and was moving fast. Menu was large with lots of options and customization. Our group was having some confusion with a gift card discount and the owner was very patient with us and our whole group, especially after each of our orders were taking several minutes. After we ordered, food came out relatively fast given the crowd, somewhere around 12 minutes. Food definitely came out faster than a traditional Thai restaurant. Restaurant was running very smoothly given that it’s only been open for a year. Takeout boxes were beautiful and high quality. Decided to sit there and eat. Portions were pretty large as 2 dishes were enough to fill up 2 people. Food was good and spicy as requested. Protein was a little chewy or undercooked but not super noticeable. One thing that I noticed was a slight difference in the quality of the food. I was the first in my group to order, and both my dishes were significantly darker than that of the rest of my group, even though several of them had the same orders.Owner came out several times to check on our group personally.
