We visited Brodeur’s Bistro in Langley last Sunday, excited after reading through their scrumptious-sounding menu. I had been to their old Abbotsford location (which sadly no longer exists) and found it very charming and unique, so I was curious to see how the Langley restaurant compared.
The Langley location is much larger, with its own parking lot, a takeout bar, and plenty of seating options inside. The gorgeous brass bar is the first thing that catches your eye when you walk in, setting an upscale yet welcoming tone.
Unfortunately, it did take quite a while for anyone to seat us, which wasn’t a great first impression. Thankfully, the wait was redeemed once we saw the different seating options. There’s a beautiful enclosed patio full of windows overlooking the mountains, an ideal spot for a date night. Another cozy area enclosed with wrought iron gave me the feeling of sitting on a small patio in Paris while admiring the bar.
Drinks
We started with a Mennonite Farm Ale and a Blanche de Chambly. Both were excellent, though the Mennonite stood out...so creamy it felt almost like dessert.
Food
We were there during happy hour and ordered a mix of items from that menu and the regular one.
Housemade kettle chips: Amazingly thin, crisp, and perfectly spiced with Louisiana hot sauce. A great value.
Brutus ribs: The highlight of our meal. Tender, fall-off-the-bone, and bursting with flavor. I could have eaten 20 of them. 😋🤤
Chicken mini sandwich: Sadly, a miss. It tasted like it had been sitting out, had a freezer-like chewiness, and was far too small for the price.
Rouben Sandwich: Delicious meat, but a small portion given the price. The 22 side options were impressive; we went with mac and cheese. Unfortunately, it was dry and bland, though improved when we drizzled rib barbecue sauce over it.
Poutine: Fantastic, though portion size was small as an appetizer. I’d recommend they offer a larger plate version with options to add Montreal smoked meat or brisket, people would drive far for that!
Mini Beignets: A treat from the happy hour menu. Warm, dusted in powdered sugar, and served with what seemed like pure maple syrup. Having tried them in Paris and New Orleans, I missed raspberry or chocolate dips, but these were still a delightful finish.
Service
Our server: Andrea, was absolutely amazing. Friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond...she truly made our experience much more enjoyable.
Overall
Brodeur’s Bistro is beautiful, with a menu full of exciting Louisiana- and French-inspired dishes. Prices are on the higher side, and portion sizes can feel a bit underwhelming, but the flavors (especially the ribs, poutine, and beignets) made up for it.
Would I go again? Yes! Next time I’ll be back for a Po’ Boy, catfish entrée, extra poutine, more beignets, and of course, another craft beer.

Read moreI've been to Brodeur's Bistro many times. I would consider it gourmet style food at regular restaurant prices. It's nice to have a restaurant that offers something different then the regular menu most places copy and paste each other.
I've had the Tourtiere, and every type of poutine they offer. I'm a big meat pie fan and I was happy with the Touritiere.
The Crispy Buttermilk Chicken. When you take a bite there's a whole a lot of different flavours going on that you don't get in a regular chicken sandwich. Very tangy, juicy chicken and awesome bun that makes all the difference from other chicken burgers.
The Smoked Wings give the equivalent surprise as the texture is much different then your regular wings as they're smoked and not fried or deep fried. By the 3rd wing your mind switches and it's an enjoyable different taste.
The Brutus Ribs fall off the bone and also have an unfamiliar taste but delightful, favourful, and enjoyable!
The Jambalaya, I wasn't so sure at first as I couldn't even remember if I've ever had it before in my life. I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it. I would definitely have it again.
I found the Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich just average, not bad but not above average as most everything is at Brodeur's. I have been to Schwartz's in Montreal a few times so it's very hard to compete with that.
The one disappointment was the Chicken & Waffles. The waffles again, was not your average pancake or waffle batter mix, it's gourmet, and by no means bad, but it was very sweet, too sweet for me. Children may just love it. If I do have the waffles again I'll leave the syrup off. I was expecting a piece of fried chicken with bone in but the chicken was a breast of breaded chicken, it wasn't plump but flat, plain tasting and on the dry side and probably the most disappointing of everything I've eaten at Brodeur's.
I wish I would have taken photos of all the meals I have had at Brodeur's to share but I was more interested in eating and forgot until after the meal was done! It's just a few blocks from my house so I'll be visiting many more times.
I do highly recommend it. It's a very busy place which speaks volumes to it's high quality and value. The service has always been...
Read moreI’ve been here 3-4 times but last night was the last. I haven’t had a positive experience any of the times I’ve been but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and thought it’d get better. It hasn’t.
Our party, a table of 4, all have food poisoning today. We shared the pita and dip app and all ordered different mains. On top of that, we made a reservation to watch the Canucks game there and got seated the furthest away from the big screen. We asked multiple times if we could have the TVs changed to the game, since we couldn’t sit in the screen section. It took half an hour to get one TV changed and it wasn’t even the one we wanted. They finally changed the one we requested…as we were leaving. An hour and a bit later.
The other times, the issues have been similar. One visit, Fiance ordered a beer and was brought a different brand. Twice. Same happened with his father who was apart of our party. Father in law made sure the burger wouldn’t be spicy, because he can’t handle it, yet arrived with spicy sauce and jalapeños. He suffered quite a bit the rest of the night. Again, asked multiple times for the game to be put on the TV and it took reminding the staff 4 times for it to happen. If it was a big deal, they could have told us it wasn’t possible instead of just brushing it off.
Another visit, our server didn’t show up to greet us for half an hour. After that, the rest of the service was about the same — a loooooot of waiting. I understand they’re busy but they’re ALWAYS busy. I work in customer service, I know what it’s like to be on the other side. Server could have handled it a lot better and communicated with us.
Overall, the staff seem stressed and/or undertrained and it shows. The vibe of the place suffers because of this.
The pros? Parking...
