Porter's is a gem! I am there for breakfast, lunch or supper several days each week and have been going there for many years. The homemade soups, bread and pastries are particularly yummy. I know most of the staff by name now and they are all friendly and efficient. Yes, Porter's has been used as a location for a number of films and it is a quaint, historic building. It is also an eclectic gift shop. But the real reason you go to Porter's is for the live music. Everything from jazz to pop and rock 'n roll. You will find some of the best musicians in BC playing this 55 seat bistro.
This year Porters added Wednesday Jazz Jams to the Thursday "Mic'd up Murrayville" Open mics.(running for the past 4 years) Friday you can hear dixieland, or jazz, and Saturday's there are a variety of different bands to complement the delicious roast beef/Yorkshire pudding buffet.
I am very lucky to be within walking distance of a fully licensed music venue. What a treat! Thank you, Karin & Bill Buurmeester for your vision and tireless efforts to bring great food, atmosphere, music and community spirit to...
Read morePerfect place for a basic, affordable breakfast on a rainy day. The place is packed full of artful creations and art work. The instant smell of fresh bread and aromatic coffee can not be topped, not to mention the sound of families and friends clearly enjoying themselves! I had the 13 dollar and change breakfast that was delicious. Unreal sourdough toast and delicious hashbrowns. Farmers sausage was cooked perfectly and my Sunnyside up eggs were just as I had hoped. My gf ordered the 12 dollar and change pancake breakfast and was equally as pleased with everything on her plate minus the pancakes. They were without a doubt edible but bland and tasted like mix. The peanut butter cookie bar/square we purchased to go was stale, crumbly and disappointing. Again, this will not stop us from enjoying this incredibly cute, quaint, homey, aromatic and "general store-esque" breakfast stop in the near future. Overall, the perfect spot to wait out the rain or kill a couple hours enjoying friends company over a delicious cup of coffee. Tons of art to ponder. Looking forward to re-visiting on a...
Read moreLove this place! Reminds me of other small cafes from my childhood. Food is great - surprisingly broad menu. All homemade - even the bread is made by the owners. Great sandwiches - breakfasts that are second to none. Can't imagine anyone saying this is pricy when the cost is not much more than a fast food restaurant's attempt at a breakfast! And you get a full plate of real decent food!! Even if you only have time for a coffee and a treat - try their cinnamon knots! Better than anything you'll get anywhere. Weekends they have live music in the evenings - haven't tried yet, but soon. If you want a taste of what a neighbourhood cafe felt like over 50 years ago - drop by. Staff is friendly - just as the other familiar faces you might see if you...
