Mom and I had an appointment in the area, and got hungry afterwards so figured we might as well try this place out since we'd never been there before and we love Americasian food. Waited at the entrance of the completely empty restaurant for quite awhile before being seated to a kitsch table so tiny a single person would have had trouble finding place, let alone two, and half of the table was occupied by bulky promotion menus, an old can of tomato soup filled with not quite enough utensils for two persons, and accessories (such as an entire box of napkins that would have sufficed for the entire restaurant), and the floor was absolutely disgusting; rotting shrimp shells and dead bugs everywhere by our feet, and the windows coated in a thick layer of dust; it was also quite hot inside and all the while, there was this terrible kitsch music playing.
We looked at the menu, and the first thing we noticed, aside from the extremely limited variety of dishes, was the outrageous prices. 8-15$ for an entrée that's not included in the lunch menus (unless you feel like paying 3-4$ extra for an eggroll or a single fried wonton), 15-30$ for a main dish, 3-7$ for a beverage... we both picked from the lunch menu, which includes a soupe du jour and either a tea or coffee, pretty standard stuff. Waitress asked if we wanted some iced tea or lemonade and we figured sure, it'd be refreshing in the hot temperature... as a result, our coffees never arrived. The iced tea ended up being a small can of San Pellegrino that cost 3.50$ extra, and my mom's lemonade was actually really good, but cost a whopping 6.50$ extra.
As for the food itself, the taste was actually really damn good, but the portions were really small. The soupe du jour I don't think even filled 1/4 cup; a baby would have asked for more, and the three tacos they served me could easily have fit into a single taco shell... no rice, no salad, no coffee, no nothing but hey, it wouldn't have fit into the small novelty taco plate anyway... kitsch.
Heck, even the bored looking waitress was apparently not included with the meal. Once our food was served, she and the cook just sort of disappeared until it was time to pay. Didn't come in to ask if all was to our taste, didn't ask us if we'd eaten well, simply came in and asked if we were ready to pay and again... without a smile or hint of interest. My meal came up to around 22$ for what was essentially a single taco with a spit o' soup and an overrated commercial drink, and my mom's meal came up to almost 30$ because of her 6.50$ lemonade (which of course the waitress didn't warn us about. Go figures, the beverage prices were suspiciously absent from the menu) and more expensive Poke Bowl which didn't even fill up the entire regular-sized bowl.
And the final straw was that while I was counting my spare change, my mom gave a 15% tip, to which the waitress replied "that's all?". No thank yous, no have a nice day, just a frown. Finished counting my spare change and it conveniently came up to a bit more than 15%. Handed her the change and she just said "that's not how you give a tip". There wasn't even any candies or fortune cookies on the way out.
Just avoid kitsch, filthy, super expensive Madame Woo and its arrogant staff. Do yourself a favor and go to Chez Lotus instead, which is literally right on the other side of the street. The service there is excellent, the staff extremely friendly, the plate sizes more than filling, and the food absolutely delicious (best wonton soup in town) while costing (a still relatively expensive) 15$ or so. Or if price is your limiter, you can go to Jasmin not too far from there. It's more commercial, but still pretty darn good (they do delivery, too!), filling, but more importantly will only cost you 10$ or so if you go...
Read moreSadly this could have been a great asian food experience but the food was super low quality and the service was ok at most. Not sure if they even know how to cook the actual recipes(?).
Drink was served in super cute Lucky Cat jar but was super watered down. Tasted like leftover cold green tea — definitely less than a cap’s worth of alcohol — no mango taste whatsoever.
The appetizers were VERY meh. Thai soup was more like a potage with little to no taste and edamame were so oily it was hard to pop them open. Drowned the soup in sriracha.
The main dish was even worse — General Tao from the gutters. I switched rice for udon noodles and they was WAY too much and undercooked, the sauce was tasteless barely any tangy or sweetness and was legit not thickened at all — just a gross soup. To top it off: one huge piece of frozen broccoli and three chicken pieces that tasted like flash fried frozen nuggets with 0 crispness — just mushy and gross.
The only upside is they agreed to give me my drink for free after this terrible meal and still I will not be going back.
Sorry Madam Woo but clearly your authenticity is non-existant and you are an overpriced and false advertising low-tier asian place. The mall’s Thai Express beats...
Read moreThe first thing that came into my mind when I opened the menu was that the food here is quite expensive. Most dishes are around 25$ which is somewhat crazy to me. Even a pokeball that you can usually find for around 10-15$, the most basic one here was around 23$. Just seeing the prices made me regret a bit going inside the restaurant. But, I have to admit that I do like the interior decorations. It makes it very cozy. Plus, the portions are pretty big so it does make up a bit for the price but I would have preferred it if the portions were smaller and the prices were lower. The food itself was of decent quality. The tuna that I had was great but I wasn't a big fan of the vinegary sauce they mixed in. Jasmin rice was also an interesting combination for this type of food, but I think I still prefer short grain rice instead, especially for pokebowls. Beside that, they had a lot of different toppings which made it a lot more enjoyable but some of them, like the carrots, were not a pleasant addition at least to me. The pad thai was also way too sweet, it was definitely not...
