This was my first time here, I'd been planning to go for ages, and my birthday seemed like a good opportunity, with just a friend, for a low-key event. I have to say I would probably give Rudy's another star, but we went at an awkward time, I think, so it was hard to tell. At 3pm in the afternoon, a freezing rain storm was possibly on the way, so the restaurant was completely empty except for my friend and me.
I wasn't really too familiar with what a "Shawarma" was. It wasn't bad & for me, enough for 2 meals (I took the rest with me) - but I would forego the dill pickles in it next time. Or maybe try something else - there were a number of good things on the menu, including hamburgers & such if you preferred that to Middle Eastern fare.(Sorry, I don't have pictures 'cos I can't figure out how to do it. )
I know Rudy, and some of his family, so it was also nice to find out how everyone was doing (I've been kind of out of circulation awhile.) I can't remember the cost, as my Shawarma was very nicely no charge for me, thanks to Rudy. (But please don't ask him for freebies, I don't think this is usual, and he's just trying to provide for his wife and daughter in this small place.) Read moreI Have been on the road 2 weeks exploring the east coast and having a donair in every maritime province. Multiple different cities. After doing an hour or so recon to figure out who may have the “best donair in town” before i set out on my dinner undertaking, It seemed Truro had many disappointing reviews from a few google highlighted Donair restaurants. Cleanliness being a big issue with most places recently as well as poor quality donair meat. Which doesn’t fly with me. But Rudys stood out and seemed to be the best option. Upon arrival it was very clean inside, there was a bell to ring for service and a very nice man came to serve me instantly after ringing the bell. With a big smile and a “how are you folks today” response. Made me feel very welcomed after being on the road for days. I ordered the Rudy donair. A 1lb of donair meat stuffed with tomato and onion and the perfect serving of sweet sauce on top all wrapped in a well crisped edge pita. And within 5-10minutes the donair arrived and ohhhh boy!!!! Read moreAbsolutely fantastic experience at Rudy’s! Their garlic fingers are some of the best I’ve ever had, and their mozzarella sticks come in a generous order of 10 instead of the usual 6 you’d get elsewhere.
My friends and I placed a late-night DoorDash order, but after an hour with no updates, we called the restaurant to check on it. The staff informed us that our food was ready and waiting to be picked up by a Dasher. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get through to DoorDash for a resolution, so we called Rudy’s back.
To our surprise, they went above and beyond—offering to personally deliver our order and even remaking two fresh orders of mozzarella sticks since the originals would have been cold. They arrived promptly, and when we tried to tip them for going out of their way, they refused, insisting it wasn’t their fault but DoorDash’s.
Between the amazing food and the exceptional service, Rudy’s has definitely earned a loyal customer....
