I've been to other Wimpy's locations and the food is never in question. Standard, safe and expected Diner fare. Which by itself would get it 5 stars in my book, because the food is always what you expect it to be.
The 3 stars here is because this is the only Wimpy's I've been to, that is NOT Handicap Accessible. I don't mean the inside of the restaurant. I mean that you can't even get to the front door of the restaurant. There's a large step at the west end of the sidewalk at the corner (painted highway yellow so you don't trip over it) and a staircase of 3 steps to the east of the store.
It's impossible to get a wheelchair to the front door. I'm actually surprised at this because I remember when it opened and I'm pretty sure "accessibility" was mandatory even then. (Parking spaces and ramps.)
Oddly enough, the entire rest of the plaza IS accessible. There's a ramp just to the east of the set of stairs I mentioned (Highway Yellow) to get access to Pet Valu and others on that level. Another set of stairs to the east with another ramp (Yellow) for access to Roane's Paint and Wallpaper (excellent store for Benjamin Moore paints) and an insurance broker. and then at the lowest level of the sidewalk, another ramp for access to Dollarama and Staples.
Like I said, Wimpy's is the only establishment in the plaza with zero accessibility. (I've even looked around the back in case there might be ramp access at the back door but no, just another step.
I don't know if this is the restaurant's fault for not finding a solution to this when they renovated and opened years ago, or the Township's for allowing a restaurant at that location to begin with.
Been bugging me for years so I'm finally saying something about it. And yes, I use...
Read moreWas not a great experience and I'll never go back. Should have went to the country kitchen next door.
Prices weren't too bad and food was good.
The problem was the service. No friendly hello or smile/greeting. Got to our tbl and waited about 10 minutes before even getting a menu. So I got up and grabbed two menus myself. Took about 10-15 more minutes for her to come ask if we're ready to order.. We didn't get coffee or anything until we ordered our food (drinks/coffee is the first simplest thing). She didn't come by once to ask how the food was or top up our "bottomless coffee".
It's not hard to offer somewhat decent service even if you're a miserable person.. The little things were not there and we left not feeling good at all about our experience. I did not leave a tip for the first time ever because there was literally no service to tip on.
We felt like outsiders and maybe because we're not locals we got treated that way,...
Read moreI grew up on Licks Burgers ( Kingston Rd, Scar), so did our kids. We coined the phrase “ Do ya wanna get Licked today? “ Sadly locations are few far and between, come to think about it I’m not sure they even exist anymore!?
That said, I’ve finally found a new burger, and SOOOooo much more joint. That’s part of its charm, it’s a joint! There’s conversation, clanking of utensils, memorabilia and GOOD FOOD - orders up ding, ding! The menu offers something for everyone of every age. I couldn’t tell you if the prices are good because our family was all over the map with what we ate ( something for everyone ) but I believe you get what you pay for and then some. The only thing lacking was the silver metal cup that my milkshake “ didn’t “ come in. With the ambiance it and memorabilia it should have been and I believe is an over site.
Thank Q for a great time...
